Service Hours/Reflection
The holidays are a great time to give back to your community!
As a reminder, to graduate from Mater Dei students must complete 10 hours of volunteer service per semester, and at least half of all hours must be "direct service." For seniors who have been at MD all four years of high school, your requirement is at least 80 total hours of service, 40 hours or more of these must be direct service hours. The deadline in spring for service hours is March 4, 2019.
Visit the Christian Service Program web page for more information. Be sure to submit your hours through our new app, MobileServe.
If you have any questions, talk to Mrs. Hopkins, our Director of Christian Service, in Campus Ministry.
Wellness
Rest well and be well during winter break! Here are some ideas...
- Join a free fun holiday activity in your community
- Spend at least three to five minutes a few times each day just breathing and relaxing in the moment, whether outside or at home
- Create a playlist of your favorite music
- Pay attention to your surroundings by slowing down your pace and feeling the ground against your feet
- Volunteer at a nonprofit and make some new friends
- Find time to unplug from electronics - your phone, tv, computer, etc.
- Spend quality time with friends or family
- Sleep well (start a bedtime winding down routine)
- Tell someone "thank you" for how they have impacted you this year
- Think through and write down a few SMART goals
If you ever need to talk to someone about personal concerns (family, friends, how you're feeling, dealing with stress, etc.) please let your counselor know. We are here to support you. We also have two Wellness Counselors available every school day.
