Castle View Family Newsletter

Big picture

Hello, Castle View Families:

It has been a week where we came together, held and loved each other, and leaned on one another. I have been so proud to be a member of this community.

Next week, there will be two opportunities for families to engage at Castle View-- our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) and our SAC (School Accountability Committee). I would love to meet you, hear your questions and advocacy, and partner with you. Both of these groups will meet on Tuesday, August 16 in the Library. Please consider joining us.

As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

CVHS Attendance Procedures

Please follow this system as it allows for a seamless attendance process.

Below are the steps that are to be followed when communicating attendance for your student.

1. Call attendance line: 303-387-9002

2. Choose the correct line (early release, late arrival, all day absence) and leave a message.

Early Release

After we receive your message, we will send a pass for your student that will allow them to come to the front office to sign out at the provided time. If your student is returning for the day, they must sign back in immediately when they arrive back at the school.

If you call your student out to leave early and they do not sign out, it will not be “excused.” If your student signs out, returns later, and does not sign back in, it will not be “excused”

In order for your student to leave the school, a parent/guardian must call the attendance line and complete the steps above. No student is allowed to leave unless cleared through a parent/guardian via message on the attendance line.

Late Arrival

If your student is arriving late, a parent must call the late arrival line and leave a message including the information asked. When your student arrives late to school, they must stop by the front office to sign in and get a late pass that will allow them into their classroom.

If you call your student in late and they do not sign in, they will not be “excused”

If your student arrives late, signs in, but we do not receive a parent call on the attendance line, they will not be “excused.”

All Day Absence

If your student is going to be gone for the entire day you will leave a message on this line. Please refrain from coming into the school to sign your student in/out instead of calling the attendance line.

Thank you for following our system, we appreciate you greatly.

CVHS One-to-One Technology

For your student to fully participate in the classroom learning environment, they will need to bring a minimum of a Chromebook-level device with them daily by the third week of school.

What is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy?

The DCSD student-technology BYOD policy allows students to bring and use their personal laptops at school or during online learning. To be compatible with classroom or online learning, the device must be able to connect to the school’s or SPS wireless network. Students will use their devices in the classroom or online learning to access and save information from the Internet, collaborate with other learners, and utilize the productivity tools, such as Google Classroom, that are available to them.

What devices are appropriate for BYOD?

Devices should have the following minimum specifications: Chromebook, 4GB Ram 16GB HD, 128GB Memory

Why Chromebooks?

In short, they're 1.) inexpensive, 2.) aligned with many of the learning tools that our students already employ (e.g., Google Classroom), 3.) are supported by the district, and 4.) have been part of the overall learning culture of our building long enough to build a solid "comfort level" for student and staff usage.

Please note that:

A small number of devices are available for long-term check-out for students demonstrating need and meeting requirements. These devices will be distributed during the first two weeks of school and the process for requesting one will be shared with your students during Advisement.
