IB Learner Profile of the Month: Open-minded
As a PVMS Family, we focus on a different IB Learner Profile (a trait that we strive to display to become the best people possible) every month. For Deember, we are focusing on being Open-minded. We are Open-minded when we show that we understand and appreciate our own culture and personal history and are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of others.. PVMS staff members will award PBIS points to students who are displaying that they are Open-minded. Teachers will also be choosing students for “Student of the Month” who are an example to others in exemplifying that they are Open-minded. We encourage students to wear brown on Fridays during December to represent our Learner Profile of the month.
You will see signs displaying the Learner Profiles throughout the school. The profiles are also posted above the white board in each classroom. Teachers have a second set of magnetic Learner Profiles that will make it easier to highlight which Profiles are relevant to the current classroom activity.

Odyssey of the Mind
Enjoy thinking outside the box? Join Odyssey of the Mind! Participating in Odyssey of the Mind provides you the opportunity to learn creative problem solving, teamwork and self-reliance while having fun solving a problem and creating a presentation with your own ideas and those of your team mates. Although you have an adult coach (usually a parent) to support and advise you, all the ideas and the work on the solution come from the team members. It all culminates in a multi-school regional competition in late February/early March and a chance for the highest scored teams to compete at the State Tournament in Orlando and maybe even the OM World Finals.
Interested students (and adults interested in coaching a team) can complete the form at: https://pvms.pasco.k12.fl.us/4297-2/
For more information please contact Pine View’s OM coordinator Nilsa Calabria, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at (813) 794-4800, Ext. 44901 or (813) 618-8995.

Staff Shout Outs!
Caring Communicator Thinker! Ms. Myers goes above and beyond as an educator. She recognized my sons need for extra help and had went out of her way to help him. Not all students learn the same way and my son IS different. She thought outside the box (open minded) to give him a computer to help with writing. She has communicated with me without me begging or initiating it. She had emailed me progress numerous times. As a risk taker, she even text messaged me his progress! Not many teachers text parents in fear of a parent using the number inappropriately but she took a risk! I almost cried when I got her message. She has also done phone conferences with me. She vowed to help him become a better writer and I firmly believe it to be the truth! She cares 110% about my son and his education to make him better! I wish we could take her with us to high school! I’m so happy to be in partnership with her this year to educate my son.- Ms. Gallagher
Mrs. Fuqua always goes above and beyond to assist every student and parent. She has helped my family and I navigate the middle school years with ease, Grace, kindness and compassion. Without her, our experience would not have been half as knowledgeable for this parent. Thank you, Mrs. Fuqua!
From the moment we met Ms. Fultz, she challenged our student with being opened minded to trying something new. Through that, our student has grown to enjoy playing an instrument he likely would have not tried. Her passion for music and talent in teaching students is amazing. We are in awe at how she keeps multiple bands organized and learning when each student is learning something different and at varying places. She is admirable and we feel blessed our son has her as a music mentor.- Ms. Spilotro
I was at lunch and she asked me how my recovery was going and I replied with "Bad they just added two more courses, to which she said I was doing good and she told me to stay positive so I will. Thank you Mrs. Warren.” - Anaya
Becky Cardinale has the warmest disposition, we have thrived on her guidance while being a part of the Panther family. Even before our first day in PVMS we were lucky enough to be deciding between Imagine School & PVMS. We had no idea what IB meant and wanted to make an educated choice after an open house @ Imagine. I called the school & was directed to Becky, wow she took the time to explain the concept and the behaviors pertaining to this particular curriculum. I was hooked then and there, shocked I was not sent to a voicemail system. Becky has been not only approachable but inviting since that first day and now in Year 3 I still know if I have a question I can go to Becky, she takes the time to help me or direct me to my best resource. Becky always has a huge smile every time we see her & she is so appreciated, we just wanted to let her know how much we appreciate her. IB Learner Profiles? Thinker, Knowledgeable, Balanced & Caring We love Becky!- Mrs. Sosulski
