Path Tip of the Week: Strong Students Advocate for Themselves
Teachers aren't perfect. It's possible to make mistakes in Skyward, or miss when a student turns in late work. We all want to fix the kids' problems by sending that quick email or making that easy call.
However, we need to switch who's at the steering wheel. Encourage your students to check their grades to make certain they are correct (not just if they're high enough). If they find a mistake, cheer them on to advocate for themselves.
We want them to learn how to take responsibility and control of the communication with their teachers. Challenge your students to professionally email their teachers with polite concerns or requests.
Bonus! Have them CC your email so you are included. Let them practice driving, but continue to monitor until they nail it. Warning: if it's their first time to steer, they'll make mistakes. Be patient. Build their confidence with positive reinforcement.
Enjoy how Dwight prepares to advocate for himself for a raise.

Academic Resumes are Coming!
At the beginning of the 2nd 9 weeks, we'll start the students with Academic Resumes. Our upperclassmen struggle with creating these their Junior year when they've forgotten all of the work from their 1st year.
No more! We'll have them begin with a Google Doc template that they'll keep and adjust as they continue their Sophomore and Junior years.
We need your help! Please ask them what club or organization they signed up to visit during CAV Time. They would need to have you sign a permission slip. See Link Below.
The Academic Resume activity will be much easier if your student has at least one thing to add.
8/9 Grade SAT Wednesday 10/16
1st Free SAT practice at the high school during the school day. It will not count as an A or B day and will have an alternative schedule.
Please visit the College Board link below for information of what's on the test, how to prepare, and what to bring.
Active Listening Presentation
Step by Step Checklist
The Checklist below is also located in the Active Listening Presentation folder. All items are expected to be completed in class, however students can work on it from home.
Grades
They'll receive a test grade for prep work which will involve writing a short script of Active Listening examples. They'll also receive a test grade for presenting the skits to the class.
Even though the students will collaborate in a group for this project, their grade is their own. If they do not do their own work or participate in the group presentation, then their grade will be negatively affected, not their group members'.

We asked: How did they come to working at LT? What is a day in the job like? What is respectful and kind behavior that makes these difficult jobs better?

Ms. Alexander from the Annex Front Desk was able to answer our questions about attendance, tardies, and check out passes. Asking politely for entry through the security door.

The Mystery of Genius Hour and the Schoology Portal
From this week on, your student will need to request to be Schoology "portaled" in by a teacher who they wish to have tutorials with during Genius Hour. It will cut down on the confusion of getting physical passes.
Genius hour is everyday, giving the students an extra hour of study hall time each day.
On Fridays, students are allowed to go to a club for Genius Hour. Please encourage your students to sign up for at least one club.
