Woodland Elementary School
Weekly Update for the week of November 23 and 24
Good Afternoon Elementary Families!
The upcoming week is certainly going to go by quickly! We are excited to meet with all our families this week for conferences. As a reminder Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24 from 1:00-3:30 and 5:00-8:00. To accommodate conferences, please plan on your child participating in the morning (from 9:00-11:45) in an asynchronous format for the classroom and specials. Students will meet with their teachers briefly in the morning to review expectations and work for the day but they will be independent for the rest of that time period. We appreciate your help and understanding.
Also, due to the rising Covid numbers in our area, we are putting a temporary pause on our library check out. We will re-evaluate after Thanksgiving and let everyone know when the program continues once more.
Lastly, beginning the week of November 30, our amazing Lunch and Recess Supervisors will be overseeing our new Lunch Bunch program. We will have Google Meet Codes for the students to join in every week to meet with their classmates and provide additional socialization opportunities. Lunch Bunch will run from 12:10-12:40 and we are looking forward to providing this added opportunity to our students.
With Thanksgiving next week, there will be no Weekly Update and I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving. Even though it might look a little different than in the past, it is still a great time to get together with family (albeit in a virtual setting) to visit and share fond memories that will last a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Ryan Wollberg

Community Outreach
The holidays can be a stressful time of year for families living in poverty, and this is a reality for many of our Woodland students. We expect the need to be even greater this year thanks to the difficult year we’ve had. Every year Elementary has extended help to our families in need. This year, the district is sponsoring several events, and here is the information for those programs.
This is a way of bringing our community together and providing additional support to Woodland families during the holiday season. Please donate if you can! If you are in need, please follow the link and request assistance. Thanks to all who have helped make this happen and those who are willing to donate and spread holiday joy!
Holiday Food Drive
This year, the district will be doing a drive-thru food drive for our families in need. We are accepting donations in order to provide each family with non-perishable food and a gift card to supplement their holiday needs.
Coming Soon.....
Art Supplies
Now that the first quarter is ending, please check with your students to see if they need 'refills' on school supplies. School supplies such as pencils, crayons, and markers are used nearly every day in Art. Additional art supplies such as blank white drawing paper, a Sharpie and watercolor paint are used as well. If you have any questions about supplies, or have difficulty providing them, please contact your student's Art teacher. Thank you for supporting your student in Art!

Social Emotional Resources
Erin's Law Presentations
This week we will look at the resources circled in the visual. If you missed it last week, please first click on the link on the whiteboard to find a letter explaining the calming corner and offering the contact information for your student’s school social worker. Next, click on the image of the Zones of Regulation poster to be taken to a document with a series of visuals that help teach students about the emotions that belong to each zone and the calming strategies students can use based on the zone they are in. For more information about the Zones of Regulation, please reach out to your student’s school social worker.
Please also take a few minutes to explore the different resources found on the bookshelf. You will find a variety of videos demonstrating breathing strategies, yoga routines, and mindfulness practices that will help students be ready to learn. Have some fun while practicing these! It is best to practice calming strategies when students are regulated so they are familiar when a student is struggling with strong emotions.
If you have any questions about the virtual calming corner or the resources available, please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or social worker!
