The Cougar Chronicles
Welcome to January and the Spring Semester of 2014
Greetings Cougar Nation! I hope you had a wonderful break! If you thought the Fall was busy, buckle up, the Spring jumps into "Warp Speed." During January, we will see our Lady Cougars & Cougars finish up their basketball seasons, our cheerleaders will host our spring basketball/track pep rally, the Kerr Cougar Band will make up the Regional Clinic & Concert, we will make-up a School Dance, and all students will participate in the MSTAR math screener. Hang on! Here we go!!!!
Cougar Nation Does it Again!
We just received word from the BISD central administration that Kerr MS has the greatest improvement in attendance for the 3rd six weeks. This is the second straight six week period that Kerr has won. Additionally, the 6th grade had the best attendance percentage among all the secondary grade levels in BISD. The reward for the greatest improvement is jeans day each Friday during the 4th six weeks for both students and staff! Kerr MS students will have the opportunity to wear jeans that are free holes, are not deemed skinny, baggy, leggings, or shorts. Students may also wear their standardized shirts (polo or Kerr spirit wear) untucked. I am very proud of our students and their commitment to come to school on a daily basis. Cougar Pride!!!
Students of the Month
Okay Cougar Nation, we got a little behind sharing with who our Students of the Month are for the past few months. All these students are well deserving of this distinction, as well as their families who play a vital role in the people they are becoming! Each of these students display the characteristics we strive for here at Kerr MS. They are kind/compassionate and hard-working individuals that help make Kerr Middle School the best school in the world.
For the month of October our students of the month were: Marisol Rodriguez - 6th grade & Kyle Perry - 8th grade.
For the month of November our students of the month were: Avery Neal - 8th grade & Sterliing White - 7th grade.
For the month of December our students of the month were: Nasir Jones - 6th grade & Molly McCalla - 7th grade.
Again, congratulations students on a well deserved recognition! Cougar Pride!!!!

All KMS students will be administered the Middle of the Year (MOY) MSTAR math screener during their math classes. This screener is provided by the state and it will be used to measure the progress of our students on important math skills necessary to be successful in math in the future and on the STAAR. Students that struggle on the screener will have the awesome opportunity to receive specific, strategic interventions from our math teachers. It is important for all students to do their very best so that we can get an accurate picture of their progress.
