Kirk Fenton News
24th October 2019
Dear Parents / Carers,
Well, what a busy half term it has been! This year has got off to a flying start with sports events, harvest festival, inspections and parents' evenings but it has been wonderful to see the children settle in to new year groups, make new friends and get stuck in to their learning. Well done to everyone!
On a disappointing note, it seems that we may be losing our Friends Committee for this year which would be such a shame when the school has benefited so much from all their donations of time and money this year. The team that this committee has created have been amazing and all of the staff at school have been so grateful for the work they have done to support the children. It really does make a difference. I know everyone has very busy lives these days but please do consider what you are able to offer as it would be such a shame to see this most useful resource come to an end. The current Committee will be holding a meeting at school at 3:30pm on Wednesday 20th November - it would be great to see you there and I know that past members of the committee would be happy to support new members.
Have a great half term,
Mrs Karen Williams

AGM update
The Friends of Kirk Fenton Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 23 October could not take place due to a lack of attendance by people beyond the existing committee. Thanks to a few people who did attend specifically to be witnesses or were at school and said they would stay – however there were not enough to act in accordance with the Friends charity constitution.
Friends are giving 21 days notice for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). If insufficient people attend to witness or form a new committee Friends will have to be formally dissolved. THE EGM IS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO BE HELD AT 3:20pm ON WEDNESDAY 20th NOVEMBER AT THE SCHOOL. If you want Friends to continue to exist, please attend if you can, simply to be a witness to proceedings and hopefully see a new committee formed. If you want to attend the EGM but can’t make it but want to volunteer or are curious about joining the committee please get in touch.
The support for Friends by people attending events and donating over the last year really is appreciated. Approximately £13,500 has been raised and £25,000 has been put back into the school for the children via Friends, the volunteers and supporters in 2018/19. A reading book system, Chromebooks, sports kits, a refurbished EYFS playground and much more have been funded.
This will not be able to continue if a new committee of people cannot be formed to help spread the load of organizing events, fundraising and administering Friends.
Christmas Fair
Friday 6th of December (straight after school) has been earmarked for the Christmas fair. Planning is still underway for this to happen, however the above EGM result will affect whether this can feasibly be organized (events like this are difficult for a small number of people to organize in their spare time). Please get in touch if you are able to help with the Christmas fair in any way (Facebook, email friendsofkirkfenton@gmail.com or speak to an existing committee member in the playground)
