Empowering Students to Navigate Conflicts
This past Friday, we celebrated our unity as a school with our first pep rally of the year. Along with the singing, dancing, and cheering that are staples of our rallies, we also took time to review Kelso's Choices.
Kelso's Choices is an empowering program that equips our students with essential tools to navigate conflicts and challenges effectively. Named after the friendly frog, Kelso, this program provides children with a set of nine strategies that encourage them to make wise choices when faced with problems. These strategies are simple, easy to remember, and applicable to a wide range of situations.
We believe that by teaching these problem-solving skills early on, we are empowering our students to become resilient, confident individuals who can handle conflicts with maturity and kindness.
Here are some of the key aspects of Kelso's Choices:
Small Problems vs. Big Problems: Helping students distinguish between problems they can handle on their own and those that require adult intervention.
Choosing a Kelso's Choice: Encouraging students to select a strategy from Kelso's list when faced with a problem, such as talking it out, walking away, ignoring, or asking for help.
Problem-Solving Skills: Teaching children the importance of solving problems independently when possible and seeking help when needed.
Building Empathy: Fostering an understanding of others' perspectives and feelings to promote a positive and respectful school community.
We invite you to reinforce these concepts at home by discussing Kelso's Choices with your children and encouraging them to apply these strategies in their daily interactions. Consistency between home and school will further enhance the effectiveness of Kelso's Choices and contribute to a supportive and harmonious learning environment.
Thank you for your continued partnership in promoting the social and emotional well-being of our students.
Warmly,
Mr. Lynch

Birthdays at Wildwood
At Wildwood Elementary, we enjoy honoring students on their birthdays. Teachers take great pride in helping your child feel treasured on their special day. If you do feel the need to send something for your child, please do not send any food items or pass them out to students before or after school. Instead, consider sending small non-edible treats (stickers, pencils, etc.) or a small class gift such as a board game, book, or puzzle with your child's name and birthday on it.
By collectively following these guidelines, our birthday students will be celebrated and the wellness of all members of our Tiger family will be elevated.
STEAM Update
Well, we had another fun week in STEAM! Our 1st and 2nd graders built Pom-Pom Launchers, and our Kindergarteners came up with creative ways to build their own Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom Trees. In October, we will be learning about bats and creating some cool take home projects!
As always, thank you for your donations! They truly help. We still need about 300 tubes either from toilet paper or paper towel rolls, and we're about half way there! Also needed are CR2032 3V Lithium Batteries for our 1-5th grade project (need 200 more!)
Please drop any donations in the STEAM bin in the front office.
We have been having a blast with your kids!
This week’s wish list includes:
- Corn starch
- Electrical Tape
- Pre-wired 3V LED Diodes
- Coin Batteries-CR2032 3V
- 9-volt batteries
- Toilet paper and paper towel rolls
Thank you!
Mrs. Casey
