PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
WEEK ENDING IN 11/12/2021
Dear OSES Families,
We had another wonderful week here at OSES!
A big Congratulations goes to the following students for completing the OCPS 5th Grade First Quarter Science Blue Ribbon Challenge: Devon Y, Sian T, Esra S, Nirav S, Saidaziz S, Ashvat P, Jasmine M, August M, Divyesh M, Prabhav M, Carlos L, Kerani J, Julian G, Alana E, and Elianne A. They completed the Study Island topics for the science standards taught in the first quarter. They will receive a certificate for their hard work! In addition to the certificates, Divyesh and Nirav will also receive a Build Your Own Bot kit.
The Service-learning club or NEHS has organized a sixth-grade food drive. The food drive will run this week and next week, ending on November 18th. The class that collects the most food will win a morning donut party. Students can bring cans to their homeroom class. Please contact Ms. Finsterle for further details.

KINDERGARTEN
The Kindergarten Team learned about informational text through a real-world experience by a Veterinarian from Dr. Katy Donovan. The kids got to hear the heartbeat, learn about germs in ears of dogs and cats how they are like humans, what animals during different season do to hibernated and the most fun was getting to pet the certified Irish wolf hound!
Next we blast into fall and can’t wait to send all of our exciting creations!
FIRST
First grade enjoyed learning about Veteran’s Day and started a new unit in Science on Earth Structures.
Keep working on your AR points! We’re half way through the month.
SECOND
Ms. Coy’s class presented our Native American dioramas this week. The students had a great time learning about the different tribes and their lifestyles past and present.

Dr. Jeune’s class and Mrs. McFarland’s class did a math lesson on the Holocaust.

In Spanish we were working onThe Day of the Dead and carnival masks. Then we worked on new vocabulary words (body parts, colors, and family members). We created a “Guess Who” game in Spanish to practice vocabulary words.. They also practiced vocabulary words with a memory game in Spanish.
Right now we are working on the Grammar part of the Spanish Language. They will get practice worksheets in the upcoming days. Please remember to check google classroom for updates and OSES Connect for grades and missing assignments. See the pictures below! :)
In music, we learned about how instruments create sound, and then designed and built our own instruments!
SPECIALS
This week, in PE with Mrs. Molnar and Ms. Molloy, we combined all the throwing techniques we have been working on this quarter into some carnival games. Students could keep track of their score and got to work on many different techniques and fine motor skills throughout the games. It was a fun week!

In the STEM Lab this week, we began learning about living things, life cycles, and adaptations.
In Character Education this week, we talked about peer relationships and what it means to include others. We discussed whether or not we need to always include others or if there or times when we can't. We finished off our introductory lesson by creating friendship recipes.
In Computer Science class, K-2 students continued working on Coding. 3-5 graders reviewed Microsoft Word and typed sentences and inserted pictures to Word.
This week in art class fifth grade got the chance to try their hand at “double load painting” Kings and Queens! They did a fantastic job!
APM Testing
3rd-6th grade: Students Adaptive Progress Monitoring (APM) score report for both Math and Reading are coming home today along with their Progress Report. Any students that need to make up the assessment will do so next week.
K-5th grade: Following Thanksgiving break, students will participate in the second iReady Diagnostic; Reading will take place the week of November 30th and Math the week of December 6th. Please make sure your student has a pair of working headphones at school.

Hello families!
Please remember that you should not arrive on campus before clubs dismiss. Even coming 5 minutes early causes backups in our dismissal process.
- Building 1 (grades K-3) - clubs dismiss at 3:40 during the week and 2:40 on Wednesday
- Building 2 (grades 4-6)- clubs dismiss at 3:30 during the week and 2:30 on Wednesday
