ICCS Mission Statement:

Strengthening spirits... minds... bodies... Through the teachings of Jesus Christ.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

Parents, thank you for being patient this morning and this afternoon as we had to quickly shift student drop off and pick up to Park Avenue due to the rainy weather. We appreciate your flexibility and cooperation.

HEART NOTES FUNDRAISER UPDATE

Several Heart Notes were not able to be delivered to students this afternoon as planned due to the rainy day dismissal. The ICCS Student Council members will be delivering the remaining Heart Notes to students tomorrow morning. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for supporting this Student Council fundraiser!

NOON DISMISSAL TOMORROW

Just a friendly reminder, school lunches will not be served tomorrow due to the 12-noon dismissal and aftercare services will not be available as well. All students must be picked up by 12:30 p.m. tomorrow from their designated pick up areas (Park Avenue or Wilson Street).

We hope everyone has a safe and fun Mardi Gras break!

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS

PK-8th Grade students are scheduled to gather on the ICCS playground for an outdoor Ash Wednesday Mass on February 17. We are watching the weather closely. A backup plan is in place for ash distribution if the weather is unfavorable. Just a reminder, girls wear skirts or jumpers and boys wear pants on Mass days.

THE VIRTUE OF PATRIOTISM

For the next three weeks, PK through 8th Grade students will be focusing on the virtue of Patriotism, which falls under the Cardinal Virtue of Justice. Patriotism means paying due honor and respect to one's country with a willingness to serve. As our students take a closer look at this virtue, they are reminded to show respect for our American flag and to pray for our United States servicemen and women, as well as for the leaders of our country.

Dear Jesus,

Please bless my country and all those who work hard to lead it and protect it. Thank you for blessing us with many good gifts. May You always be King of this land. May You be glorified through its government and laws. Please give me a heart of service, especially towards those who are weak and defenseless. Amen.

SMCS STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TRANSITION BACK TO CAMPUS

For the past several months, the St. Margaret Catholic School 5th-8th Grade students and teachers have conducted face-to-face learning in our 3rd Floor Annex area. While we have not been able to interact with our St. Margaret's friends due to COVID restrictions, it has brought our students and faculty members joy knowing they are here and able to utilize our extra space in their time of need.

The St. Margaret's students and teachers are moving back "HOME" next week. For the first time since Hurricane Laura, they will be in their own classrooms and learning environment. What a blessing! We wish them well and will keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they transition back to their campus to continue to grow and learn as a school community.

St. Margaret of Scotland, pray for us. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, pray for us.

CLASSROOM AND SCHOOL NEWS

PK CLASS RETREAT

Mrs. DuRousseau and Mrs. Forsyth's PK friends enjoyed a fun and prayerful class retreat on Wednesday in the ICCS Cafeteria. ICCS Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Rose Viau guided the students through a variety of faith-focused activities including reciting the 5-Finger Prayer, decorating a King Cake, creating a Valentine's Day card for Jesus, and making an Our Father bracelet. The students also learned more about Mardi Gras and Lent during their time together.

CURSIVE HANDWRITING ACTIVITY

Ms. Wilder's 2nd Grade students had a great time practicing their cursive handwriting skills this week using shaving cream. This fairly inexpensive activity is a great way to work on handwriting skills at school and at home. Ms. Wilder's students encourage all ICCS students to give it a try over the Mardi Gras break!

6TH GRADE PRONOUN PARADE

Mrs. Romano's 6th Grade English classes proved grammar CAN BE FUN by participating in a "Pronoun Parade" on the ICCS playground on Monday. Students studied concepts related to pronoun usage and shared their knowledge with others during the parade.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK CANNED GOOD DRIVE BIG SUCCESS

Our ICCS students collected an entire car full of canned goods for Catholic Charities during Catholic Schools Week. The donations were delivered to Catholic Charities last Friday. The Catholic Charities Team would like to thank all ICCS students and families who participated in this local service project.

2ND GRADE FIRST RECONCILIATION

The following ICCS 2nd Grade students made their First Reconciliation at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral on February 3. Please continue to keep these students, their teachers and their families in your prayers as they prepare for First Reconciliation in May.

PRAYER AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS

O Mary, you shine continuously along our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the Cross were near to the pain of Jesus, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us, He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and took up our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.

We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
