Coaches vs. Cancer - TONIGHT at the GEHS Blazer Basketball Games
Young Rembrandts - Make-Up Days due to Snow Days
We plan to make up lessons at the end of the session. We will push back the start of our spring session to fit in whatever make up lessons we have at the end. Also, below is our inclement weather policy which is also posted on our website.
Inclement Weather Policy:
- Young Rembrandts follows the Inclement Weather Policy of each school district.
- If school is delayed only, we WILL hold class.
- If school is canceled for the day, we WILL NOT hold class.
- If school is dismissed early for any reason, we WILL NOT hold class.
- If school-related after-school activities are canceled at any point, we WILL NOT hold class.
- There are no refunds given for classes missed due to inclement weather, however we will try to make up those classes (see below)
Make-Up Days:
- Our policy is to make every effort to make-up missed classes due to inclement weather.
- Make-up days are subject to the availability of the school facility and schedule and are not always possible.
- If possible, make-up classes will be held on the same day of the week and be added to the end of the session.
- Decisions regarding make-up days are at the discretion of Young Rembrandts and will be communicated to parents/guardians as soon as information is available.
Spring Picture Day - February 5
Strawbridge Photos will be at Sunflower on Tuesday, February 5 for spring individual and class pictures!
You should have received a payment envelope for the class picture, along with a flyer with more information about the individual pictures.
If you would like to purchase a class picture, please remember to bring your payment envelope and give to your teacher.
You do not prepay for these individual pictures! You will be receiving a packet of photos within the next couple of weeks. At that time, you will pay for photos you keep and return the photos you don’t want to keep.

Chat 'n Chew for 1st and 2nd Graders
What is Chat ‘n Chew?
Chat ‘n Chew is a program that gives children the chance to listen to adults read books and discuss these great reads with their friends. Parents volunteer twice a month to read to a small group of children. Each Chat ‘n Chew group will meet during lunch and while the children eat, their parent sponsor will read one or two picture books. After they read each book, the children will discuss the book. The books can be brought in from home, checked out from the public library, or borrowed from Sunflower’s media center.
Who can participate?
Chat ‘n Chew is a program for 1st and 2nd graders (3rd and 4th graders have the chance to participate in Novel Navigators). Students and parents need to sign the form below and return it to Mrs. Rains in the LIT Lab by Friday, January 25th. Chat ‘n Chew groups will be formed and announced the week of February 11th and will begin meeting the 1st week in March.
How can I become a sponsor?
Fill out the Google form (click on the link below) Select which day(s) that work best for you. 1st grade eats lunch from 10:50-11:20 and 2nd grade eats from 12:00-12:30. I will be happy to help you select great read-alouds. I will also provide each coach with a list of discussion starter questions. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. can also sponsor a group!
Online Absence Reporting is Available Once Again!
Due to many requests about this missing link to the Online Absence Reporting, I wanted to make sure it was one of the first things added back on the Sunflower website.
Parents have two different options to report an absence for your student. You can report the absence electronically via the Skyward Family Access. You can gain access to this link by clicking on MENU, and then clicking on Online Absence Reporting at the bottom of the menu (see photo below). If you do not remember your login information, please contact the office at 913-856-3700 or email jacobsc@usd231.com.
You can also call into the Attendance line at 913-856-3749 and leave a message for the office.
And as always, if your student will miss any days due to an out of town trip, please email Dr. Jones ahead of time at jonesja@usd231.com for preapproval.
Thank you again for your patience while we complete the transition to the new Sunflower website!
