FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...
Behold, now is the day of salvation
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Today we begin the Lenten Season. It is a time of deep reflection; a time of fasting, alms giving and prayer. We begin these 40 days of Lent with our students at our All School Mass. We are signed with a cross of ashes. In so doing, we are both claimed for Christ and reminded of his sacrifice for our salvation.
This week and next we are also very engaged with the CogAt and IOWA tests. These important national tests help us to reflect upon what we are doing well at St. John the Baptist School and what we need to continue to work on. Please help you daughters and sons to do their best by getting a good night’s sleep and breakfast.
Our school along with our parish is working on the Create the Good project. It is a wonderful way to be more fully aware of and committed to the Season of Lent. Please consult the parish bulletin or see below for the full details about Create the Good.
Last week, my oldest son and I along with my nephew, his wife and daughter had the opportunity to go to Italy. There were many amazing and inspiring sights and experiences. I had not been in Italy for more than 40 years. I am deeply grateful for the blessing of this trip. We were touring the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica. As I entered St. Peter’s, there was a holy water font which was offered to those who enter by two angels. When I blessed myself, I was overwhelmed with a sense of wonder, mystery and grace. Behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 COR. 6:2 for Ash Wednesday)
During this Lenten Season, may we all take the time to look for, recognize and be thankful for the presence of the Lord in our midst. I encourage you to invite your daughters and sons to look for ways to do good and to be moved during Lent. As we do these things, we will more fully be able to say, Behold, now is the day of salvation.
Sincerely,
Daniel A. Minelli

KEEP SPREADING THE WORD...YOU COULD BE THE LUCKY WINNER OF
A $500 TUITION CREDIT!
Refer new families to our school (Preschool-8th grade) and for each family that enrolls, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $500 tuition credit to be applied to the 2020-21 school year. Drawing will be held in late August.
Ed Choice Scholarships
For both NEW and RENEWAL Traditional (district based) Ed Choice Scholarships, enrollment will not be available until April 1, 2020. To view a list of designated public schools that are eligible for the traditional type, please visit the Ohio Department of Education website. You may however bring your scholarship request applications along with a copy of a current utility bill to the school office anytime. Your student(s) must be registered at St. John's for the 2020-21 school year before any scholarship requests can be submitted.

Create the Good Event
Please join us on March 24 & 25 from 6:00-8:00 pm for the fourth Create the Good event. Bring the whole family, scout troop, athletic team, etc. for a fun night of service. Pizza and salad will be provided. We will begin in the cafeteria for fellowship and dinner.
For this round of Create the Good, St. John's will be helping the following organizations:
Binky Patrol: An all-volunteer, non-profit organization, dedicated to making blankets and giving them away to children in crisis such as abuse shelters and hospitals
Hope's Closet: An organization located in Hamilton that enriches the lives of families that are impacted by children's services. They strive to build intentional relationships to restore broken families as they LOVE displaced children and their families, PROVIDE encouragement, support and material needs, and INSPIRE hope in a loving God.
Raviv - A Program of Vivian's Victory: Resource binders are a handy tool for families who have a child admitted from the Emergency Room into the Pediatric Care Unit. Often times, this unexpected stay is an overwhelming time involving several medical teams. These binders allow for the families to keep all their information and notes regarding their child's care in one place.
Corpus Christi Food Pantry: Provides for the poor in our community.
We still need many supplies to be DONATED. Please check out the Sign Up Genius (link below) for a list of specific items needed and to sign up.

If you are interested in sponsoring an entire basket, larger donations are certainly welcomed. Please send donations to school in a sealed envelope to Sam Jacobs in Miss Wilmes' class, Attn: Carnival. Thursday, March 13th will be the last day of our collection.
We will be sending out a Sign Up Genius later this week for parent/student volunteers. Any student in 6th grade or older is welcome to sign up. We will need many helping hands!
