What are Linear Equations?

Linear Equations

Slope-Intercept Form

  • y = mx + b
  • m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
  • y=-2/3x + 5/3

Standard Form

  • Ax + By = C
  • A and B are not both 0.
  • 2x + 3y = 5

Point-Slope Form

  • ( y - y1) = m ( x - x1)
  • ( x1, y1 ) lies on the graph of the equation,
and m is the slope.
  • y - 1 = -2/3 ( x - 1 )

Problem #1

3x - 9 = 33

+9 +9

3x = 42

3 3

X = 14

The solutions is X = 14.

Problem #2

-5x - 7 = 108

+7 +7

-5x = 115

-5 -5

X = -23

The solution is X = -23
