October 2021

Virtual Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment meetings

Grade and subject specific curriculum meetings will begin in October. We will continue to meet virtually - please use the attached Zoom link.

Be prepared to share a lesson you have taught which has inspired your students in some way - to think deeply about the topic or context, to learn new skills, to explore further.

Learning Through Teaching - UNH Professional Development

Through grant funding we have an exciting professional development offering from UNH available to teachers. UNH Learning Through Teaching site.

Learning Through Teaching is a unique form of professional development that brings UNH into your school where you will earn graduate credits alongside your colleagues which will be paid for by the district. The course requires monthly after school classes that will run for 90 minutes at your school. In this course you will study the components of teaching reading and writing in a workshop model.

Dates will run throughout the year starting in October. We plan to run an elementary and a secondary cohort.

At this time, we have a waitlist for the course; however, if you are interested, please let me know and I will place your name on the waitlist.

Educator Spotlight

Krystal Smith is a new hire for the district as the Response to Intervention Coordinator. In short, she will be helping teachers use data to inform instruction in the classroom, as well as coordinate support for students at the second and third tiers of RTI support. She comes to us after 14 years of teaching high school science, most recently at nearby Lebanon High School. She has a M.Ed. from Franklin Pierce University in Curriculum and Instruction, and has completed nearly half of a three year doctorate program through Southern NH University in Educational Leadership. She is excited to be looking at education through the elementary grade level lens for the start of the year, and using data to support decisions being made in the district. Stop by and introduce yourself if you haven't already. And if you work at one of the elementary schools, don't be surprised to see her dropping into your classroom and team meetings to observe and participate in the great things that are happening there.
* If you would like to have a classroom activity or lesson featured in an upcoming newsletter, please email me! I'd love to share the wonderful work happening in your classes.

Mandatory Trainings - Complete by October 15th

Attached please find the directions and links for the Mandatory Trainings for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please complete your trainings by October 15th and complete the professional development forms to document your learning.

Frontline for Professional Growth

The MVRSD is transitioning our professional development management to Frontline this fall. Currently the site is being built; the PD Committee and district administration will have a preview and training on the site before sharing the new process with staff.

Frontline for Professional Growth is an extension of Frontline for Absence Management, so you're already familiar with the site! The Professional Growth will use the MVRSD forms you already use, but they will be completed on the website. You will be able to access, track, and manage your current and past professional development.

At the October 8th early release day, we will provide training on the site, as well as time in your building to upload your goals and ask questions.
