RHHS Wildcats: News You Can Use

#WEareRH - Weekly Newsletter - March 27, 2020

School closure & elearning

RHHS and all school buildings in Bryan County are currently closed, and. yesterday Governor Kemp extended all public school closures through April 24, 2020.

During the closure, instruction will continue using elearning platforms. Students will use Google Classrooms to interact with teachers and receive instruction daily, Monday - Thursday. Students must be logged into their Bryan County Schools gmail account (not their personal email) in order to access their Google Classrooms. Teachers will be available (via email) to students and parents from 8am-3pm daily, Monday - Thursday. RHHS has set a "schedule" to provide structure for both students and teachers:

  • 1st block: 8am-9am
  • 2nd block: 9am-10am
  • 3rd block: 10am-11am
  • 4th block: 11am-noon

We fully understand that some students will not be able to follow the schedule, and this is fine. All students should login to each Google Classroom daily, complete the attendance form, and complete the associated lessons and activities for the course (even if it is at a time outside of 8am-noon). Our goal is for students to have 30-45 minutes of instruction/activities for each of their classes, each day.

We have created a link on our RHHS homepage with information related specifically to elearning.

Updates and information will be communicated using the RHHS website, our Facebook page, and Twitter.

Meals on the Bus

Meals are being provided during our time away from the building. Breakfast and lunch "to go" will be provided to all children 18 years and younger.

Meals may be picked up at RHHS beginning at 11am. There will be signs directing you where to pick up the meals once on campus. We ask that you not get out of your vehicle. We will deliver the meals to the cars.

Buses will also make meal deliveries to three of our neighborhoods in south Bryan:

Ashton at 11am, Piercefield at 11:15am, and Plantation at 11:30am.

If you have questions, please email Ms. McNeal directly at dmcneal@bryan.k12.ga.us .

Turning off notifications for Google Classroom

If you are getting more notifications from Google Classroom than you would like, there is a way to disable these notifications.

How to disable notifications: Go to your Settings (clicking the 3 horizontal lines on the top left of the computer screen when you are logged into classroom), scroll down to Settings at the bottom, click that, and simply toggle off Class Notifications to your liking at the bottom.

Below is a link to a YouTube explaining this same process:

Advisement and 7 Mindsets

Each week, students meet in advisement and have a lesson from 7 Mindsets. As you know, 7 Mindsets is the curriculum we use for our social/emotional learning.

During our time away from the school building, we are going to share the week's lesson here. Please consider viewing the lesson as a family and participating in it together.

GSU modifying their admission requirements for Summer and Spring

Georgia Southern University first year applicants for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 are not being required to submit ACT or SAT scores as a requirement of their institution application.

According to University's Office of Admissions website, “First-year students applying to Georgia Southern University for the summer and fall 2020 semesters can be admitted without an ACT or SAT score, if they have a sufficiently high GPA.”

Counselors at RHHS encourage students to stay connected throughout the time of e-learning. Grades are going to matter more than ever without the ACT or SAT being considered for admission at GSU! Official high school transcripts will be used to evaluate a student’s academic performance and will be used in the college admission process.

The COVID-19 pandemic has lead the College Board and ACT to suspend many upcoming ACT and SAT testing dates. More information about these cancellations can be found at Collegeboard.com and ACT.org

The University System of Georgia authorized the change that granted GSU prospective first-year students to meet all other admission requirements, including satisfactory completion of the required high school curriculum and all other requested documentation.

Georgia Southern enrollment counselors remain available to assist applicants and prospective students via phone and email.

Please note that the change to waive the test requirement is ONLY for first year applicants. Dual Enrollment applicants must still meet the required scores and GPA as indicated and set forth by the university.

Other universities and colleges throughout the states may or may not be adjusting dates and application criteria. Students and families should visit the school’s website they are interested in to learn about the most current information during this time.

Information about upcoming events

The following events have been suspended, postponed or cancelled:

  • All GHSA contests and practices, including band and JROTC, have been suspended until April 24, 2020.
  • Prom has been postponed. We do not yet have another date identified. Once students return to school, we will work to find a new date/location for this event.
  • Grad Bash has been cancelled. Students who registered and paid for this trip will receive additional information about refunds once we return to school.

Countdown to Graduation 2020

Seniors have received the “Countdown to Graduation”. If you have any questions regarding senior walk, the senior meeting or the graduation ceremony , please email Mrs. Goldrick at sgoldrick@bryan.k12.ga.us.

Due to changes in Remind, senior information will not be shared using the Senior Remind. Please visit the Senior Web Page for senior information.

More information will continue to be released as we get closer to graduation day.

Scholarships available

RHHS has a webpage that is devoted exclusively to scholarship opportunities. We strongly encourage students to visit this page regularly. Ms. Jenny Kea, one of our Social Studies teachers, serves as our Honor Committee chair and coordinates scholarships and maintains this webpage. If you have questions, please email her directly at jkea@bryan.k12.ga.us .
