Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

Click this link to record the minutes you are reading.

Do you want to be a part of the BIGGEST thing happening this summer? Palencia Elementary School has joined schools from all over the world to help set a new world record for summer reading! Globally, our goal is to beat the 2015 record. At Palencia we want to make it over 100,000 minutes. Students with the most minutes read at each grade level will be recognized on WPES and given awards.

You will need the user name and password given to you by your teacher last year. E-mail Mrs. Ayrish if you need your username again. The minutes you are reading now count too. Log your minutes and print your your Reading Log to turn into school by September 9, 2016. If you recorded your reading on a different reading log, add up your minutes and turn that log in to school. We are so happy to have you as part of our Pirate team for this Summer Reading Challenge.

Library Policies

Mission

Check-out Policy

  • There is a two-week checkout period. Items can be renewed as needed.

  • Only past issues of magazines are available for check-out.
  • Parents can request library cards and check out books with their children.

Book Care

  • Always carry library books in a plastic bag - even in your backpack.
  • Handle books with clean dry hands.
  • Be careful turning pages.
  • Use a bookmark! Never dog-ear pages.
  • Keep books away from babies and pets.

Library Catolog - Follett Destiny

Our library catalog is online and available from computers at school and home. Visit http://www-pes.stjohns.k12.fl.us/media and select Destiny Library Catalog from the top menu. At this page click on Palencia. Then search to find your favorite book or check to see if we have an Accelerated Reader test available for a book. You can also search our MackinVia e-books from the Follett Destiny Catalog.

Sunshine State Young Readers Award

Each year students are challenged to read books from the Sunshine State Reader list. There are 15 books on the list for grades 3-5. Once students have read at least 3 books and passed an AR test with 70% accuracy, they are eligible to vote for their favorite book. There will be incentives for reading each of the books. Students who read 10 or more will be invited to try out for the Battle of the Books team. For more information and a list of books, visit the PES Media Center Website.
