Newsletter Term 2 Week 7
Patumahoe School 16th June 2021
PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Kia ora everybody
We have special guest Jerome Kavanagh in this Thursday to do a whole school Maori Instrument Performance. Friends and whanau are all welcome to come along and watch this Grammy award winning artist share his talent and knowledge. Proceedings will get underway with a powhiri at 11am.
I wish to give you all advanced notice that on the 7th of July which is the last week of this term, school will be closing for instruction at the time of 12.30pm to allow our teachers to attend an NZEI Teachers Union meeting. We would appreciate if families were able to collect their children at the earlier time, however, we will be offering supervision for children of families who are unable to make arrangements. We apologize for the inconvenience and have expressed similar sentiments to NZEI at a recent meeting regarding the timing. In Week 9 we will be sending a note home to families so that we can compile a list of every child's movements on this day.
I have noticed a few children regularly arriving late to school in the mornings recently. Students arriving late to class is a disruption to classroom learning. Teachers often have to repeat instructions to the arriver and this takes away from the other students. Whilst we understand the odd late arrival cannot be avoided, making a habit of arriving late can be and should be avoided.
A big weekend in sport looms. The Blackcaps take on India in the World Test Cricket Championship Final starting Friday evening. I feel it seems only fair for our boys to right the many many wrongs of the 2019 World Cup Final and claim some well deserved silverware. I also have a hunch ahead of the Super Rugby Trans Tasman final. The Highlanders will have too much forward pack grunt for the Blues in what will be wet and heavy conditions. Finally, the US Open Golf Championship will be contested at Torrey Pines, the site of Tiger Woods' famous 2008- broken leg- victory. With the impending rough weather set for this weekend, perhaps take in some of the sport action, I might even ask some of our kids for their opinions next week.
Have a nice rest of the week
