A Note from the Principal

HMS Families:

It has been a wonderful first week at school here at HMS! This week, students toured the school, reconnected with friends, learned about each class they are taking, and started to dive into academics. I hope that this long weekend will give every HMS student the chance to rest and recharge.

This weekend, our students have a small homework assignment from their HomeBase teacher. Students, and their families, are asked to review the student handbook (link below) and to sign and return their handbook review paper. Please take a moment to go over the handbook with your child and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your help!

Our office staff is here to help you with any questions or concerns. Please give us a call at 360-448-6440 if we can be of assistance.

Thank you for your support!

~ Meredith

Student Drop Off / Start of School

HMS classes begin each morning at 8:50 a.m. Our office opens at 8 a.m. and the doors open for student drop off at 8:30 a.m. If students arrive at school early, they can go to the cafeteria for breakfast or the library for study / reading time. If you are dropping off your student early, please encourage them to visit one of these two supervised locations until the bell rings for their first class. Thank you for your help in keeping students safe during morning arrival!

Fall State Testing

This Fall, students in grades 6-8 will be taking state assessments to measure their performance in the math, English Language Arts, and science skills of the previous grade. The assessments are shorter versions of the typical state test. HMS students will take their test over the course of two days in the subject-area classes. Our tentative test schedule is:

Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (Grade 6) - Sept. 30 & Oct. 1

Language Arts (Grades 6, 7, & 8) - Oct. 4 & 5

Math (Grade 6, 7, & 8) - Oct. 11 & 12

Make-up testing will be offered during the month of October in an alternative setting.

Students will take their regular state assessments on the current grade level standards at the end of the school year.
