Sister Patricia Fillenwarth 1940-2020
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the passing of Sister Patricia Fillenwarth or Sister Patty as many knew and loved her here at Maternity B.V.M.
Sister Patty, formerly Sister Joseph Monica, born in Indianapolis in 1940 and entered the Congregation on January 6, 1958.
Since 1976, she had lived in the Chicago area at Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent before moving to the motherhouse of Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in Indiana. She had ministered as a teacher at four schools and was a principal of Maternity B.V.M. School for more than 30 years.
For over 20 years, countless lives had been enhanced, thanks to the steadfast volunteers and staff of Providence Family Services (PFS), led by Sr. Patty, serving those in the Humboldt Park community of northwest Chicago.
“I’m very happy with all of this work that we have done over the years – every single part of it,” Sister Patty said. “I feel so grateful that we have been able to help people, even in little ways. But there is no way we could have done this alone. We have had so much help from the Sisters of Providence, the Maternity BVM community, and all of our wonderful donors and volunteers.
Sr. Patty did many great things and will be missed greatly.
Rest in Peace Sister Patty you were a true blessing.
