Magnetic, Optical and Solid Memory
By Azhar Ahmed
What is Magnetic Memory?
Magnetic memory is the oldest of the technologies. Magnetic memory is things such as floppy disks, hard disks and tapes. It is cheap and easy to carry, but is vulnerable to damage.
What is Optical Memory?
Optical memory is used in CD's and DVDs. Lasers write data to the disc and read data from it. It's non-volatile and fairly cheap to make, although it requires special drives to read and it has a slower access time.
What is Solid Memory?
Solid Memory is things like USB drives. You can read and write files to them and they are stored on a memory chip. Some of them can store files up to 128GB or more. Although, it can be used to transfer viruses from computer to computer
