Madison District Public Schools
Quarter 2 Update
A Message From The Superintendent
Welcome to Quarter 2 of the 23-24 school year!
As we enter this new season, I want to take the opportunity to highlight the great things happening in Madison District Public Schools and also provide you with an opportunity to give us feedback.
Academically, MDPS is moving in the right direction. It is with great pride that I announce, as of today, all classes are being taught by a certified teacher! Staff members are working daily with the goal of ALL STUDENTS improving their academic skills. In addition, we have established a District-Wide Curriculum Task Force, that meets monthly to discuss teaching and learning in MDPS. During these meetings, teachers from grades K-12 are given the opportunity to discuss academic data, using a district-created protocol, and make courageous decisions regarding teaching and learning.
To ensure we are servicing ALL STUDENTS, we need your feedback. Please take the time to add your thoughts regarding any additional resources you would recommend for increasing student achievement by completing the google form below.
Restorative Practice Training for All Staff
On November 7, 2023, there is no school for students as all staff will be participating in Restorative Practices Professional Development that day. Restorative practices is a field in social science that focuses on how to strengthen relationships between individuals. The concepts learned during this training will give staff the skills needed to not only improve their relationships with students but also to improve the relationships amongst themselves. The learning will also provide strategies for minimizing conflict and reacting to misconduct by encouraging students to accept responsibility and repair any harm caused by their behavior
We are looking forward to the growth this will bring to our culture!
The Madison District Public Schools ParentSquare is Available
Madison District Public Schools is excited to stay connected with our families with our NEW communications tool -- ParentSquare. ParentSquare provides a safe way for the school principal, teachers, staff and parents to receive important school and teacher communication -- all in one place. This will help streamline communication from your school and teachers to keep you informed and connected.
Parents should have received an activation email for their ParentSquare account. Creating an account will allow a parent to interact with school and teachers by viewing photos, downloading attachments, leaving comments and creating direct messaging to teachers.
Madison Early Childhood Center Highlights
Our Eaglets at had a great 1st quarter, as students and families participated in various activities that created an excitement for learning! With an increase in kindergarten enrollment, it was imperative that we created an increase in activities for families. During Quarter 1 ECC hosted their first Family Fall Night where students and families had an opportunity to engage in pumpkin decorating, crafts and dancing while enjoying donuts and cider. This event was made possible by Cregger Plumbing who supplied pumpkins for decorating at a discounted rate.
ECC also started a STEM Club that meets on after school, for an hour, on Thursdays. STEM Club gives students an opportunity to program Botley, a robot, using OSMO, an Educational Gaming system. Students will also have an opportunity to experience programming with LEGOs.
Madison Elementary School Highlights
The start of the 23-24 school year brought not only an increase in enrollment, but also a new Autism Spectrum Disorder classroom at Madison Elementary School. This program can service up to 6 students with support from a Special Education teacher, two Paraprofessionals, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech and Language Therapist and a Social Worker. This classrooms gives us an opportunity to live our vision by providing education to ALL STUDENTS.
Madison Elementary is also looking forward to continuing this greatness through upcoming activities(time and dates will be posted on the Madison Elementary School Website).
- After School Clubs
- After School Tutoring
- Magic Show Assembly for Students
- Winter Holiday Extravaganza
Wilkinson Middle School Highlights
Wilkinson Middle School is continuously working to build a village through relations with students parents and community partners. Our annual Corn Roast gave the staff and students an opportunity to engage in activities outside of the classroom. This event fostered healthy socialization and competition within the school. The 5th graders of Madison Elementary, were invited as well. We want to bridge the gap between elementary and middle school.
As quarter 2 begins, WMS is starting their Boys Mentoring program, and after school tutoring. Schedules are forthcoming and will be posted on the school's website. Currently, we are hosting a Chess Club and Cooking Club after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Upcoming Events to Look For on WMS Website:
- Financial Literacy Workshop for Students and Families
- STEM Program
- 7th and 8th Grade Basketball Schedules
Madison High School Highlights
Our Eagles have stepped up to beat our 2 Week Challenges, earning school swag and lunchtime rewards! During the month of September, 18 students had perfect attendance – no tardies and no absences, and in October, a total of 30 students had zero missing assignments across all six of their classes.
The Class of 2024 has participated in 26 post-secondary opportunity visits so far this year, ranging from the military branches, community colleges, trade schools, and 4-year universities. At the end of the first quarter, our seniors have accumulated just over $5,000,000 in total merit scholarships! We are so proud of all of their hard work during this busy college application season! As postsecondary opportunity visits continue, each senior will continue tracking their merit scholarships. We are so excited to see how many students will reach over $1 million dollars earned in merit scholarships, and become a member of the “Million Dollar Club!!!”
