A Glimpse Into My Life
I began my college career late in life after being a stay at home mom for many years. People laugh when I say that my goal is to finish college before my oldest starts...but I am quite serious. He will be a freshman in high school next year so I have to keep working hard! When I finally complete school I will be looking for a job as an elementary teacher. I don't have a specific grade I want to teach, but know I do not want kindergarten or 5th. I'd be happy with anything 1st through 4th.
At this point in my life my biggest passion is my family. I love getting to spend time with each child individually and watching them do the sports they love. When we have the chance to do something as a whole family we try to truly enjoy each other and have fun together.
My life is incredibly busy with sports, work, and school, but I wouldn't want it any other way!
My Personal Learning Style
I have taken several personality and learning through work and school. Here's what I've learned about myself.
According to the Keirsey Temperament test, my personality type is a Guardian. Guardians play an important role is society because they excel at keeping things running smoothly, at home, work, school, and within the community. As a Guardian I take great pride in being dependable; if a job needs to be done I will work diligently until it is finished.
My learning style is very strong on the visual style (60%). In order for me to learn efficiently I need to sit up front in class, write down key points, color code things, and avoid distractions while studying.
The top three intelligences for me were: self, social, and body movement. Self means that I enjoy being by myself and like to have time to think through new ideas. The social part means that I like to learn from other people and have good social skills. Body movement means that I like to be active and will learn better if I have a chance to move while learning something new .
Strengths and Weaknesses
I think that the fact that I am a Guardian is my biggest strength, and has the potential to be my biggest weakness too. I will work hard to make sure that my lessons reach all of my students, but if my students have a wide range of abilities (low to high), this could be a challenge. Being a Guardian, I can see myself feeling that it is my responsibility to make sure every student masters each task, and this is not always possible. I will have to be careful to not place too much of a burden on myself and accept that I can not "fix" every student.
