Canonsburg Middle School Update
Hybrid Learning
Our learning hybrid format has allowed us to teach our students safely distanced. While our remote learning program has provided live, synchronous instruction by your child's teachers, nothing truly replaces in-person instruction. If you are comfortable with returning back to in-person instruction, please do not hesitate to contact the office via email, CMMS@cmsd.k12.pa.us or phone, 724-745-9030.
Importance of Structure and Routine
It was great to see students back in the building on Tuesday! We cannot emphasize enough the importance of the students attending class on time. This means getting up on time, getting out of bed, dressed, eating breakfast and attending all their online classes on time. It has been clear that the many students who are adhering to these structure guidelines are the students who are seeing success. Adolescents strive with structure. If this has not been happening then this is a great time to start since we just began the 3rd nine weeks on Tuesday.
Daily COVID Screener
Parents and students are doing a commendable job with using the daily screener. Again, this will help everyone to stay healthy and our school open. Here is another link to the updated screener as reference. Should you have any questions, please do no hesitate to contact Mrs. Vulcano, School Nurse at vulcanos@cmsd.k12.pa.us or 724-745-9030, ext. 1123
National Junior Honor Society
The NJHS Sponsors will be giving information out to eighth grade students who meet the initial academic criteria (3.7 GPA) on how to apply to the CMS NJHS Chapter. This information will be shared the first week of February. We have adjusted this year's criteria as it relates to volunteer work given the reduced number of opportunities due to the epidemic.
Temporary Remote for the Day
If your child is a hybrid student but needs to do a temporary remote day, it is important to follow our established procedure. We cannot emphasize enough of avoiding missing your in-person days and only should miss if you absolutely have to miss due to illness. Click here for the procedure that was shared via email earlier in the school year.
Snow Days are Remote Days
Winter is here...therefore the inevitable snow day will be upon us. Fortunately, our current format allows us to move to a remote learning day instead of fully canceling the day. Should there be a day called for snow, teachers will teach remotely and all students will be expected to log in to attend all classes.
School Counselors
Our School counselors are here for you. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to them if you need help or suggestions with your child. We understand the middle years can be challenging. For more information and how to contact Mrs. Hedderman (A-L) and Mr. Gillespie (M - Z), click here.
