Synchronous Chats vs Asynchronous chats like this book study
In a typical Twitter chat, educators set a meeting time to exchange ideas in conversation using a hashtag. This is called "synchronous learning" where all participants are actively engaged and learning together at the same time. NGSSchat is a Twitter chat that takes place every 1st and 3rd Thursday at 9 PM ET.
In contrast, asynchronous learning via Twitter chats can happen between people who are not online at the same time. This enables a global community to share practice and ideas and be inspired beyond the scheduled synchronous Twitter chat. In this "slow chat" asynchronous format, moderators will post a question and participants can answer it when they are available 24/7. In addition to sharing their answer to a question via a tweet to the #NGSSslowchat hashtag, participants in a slow chat are encouraged to respond to others tweets/answers. These responses can occur throughout the week. Slow chats are a great way to deepen learning and allow for all time zones to participate and for great conversations to unfold at a slower pace.
#NGSSslowchat Great conversations on demand!
