Coffee with the Principal is from 10:00am-10:30am and the parent workshop is scheduled from 10:30am-11:30am. The parent workshop will be presented by Jaime Carias. The pandemic has brought unprecedented feelings of uncertainty and unknown to families and into households. Uncertainty about financial stability, about at home learning, and of the current state of the family’s health and the public health. Please use the weekly Coffee with the Principal Zoom link.
Topic: Grit and Resiliency
This topic focuses on how this grit and resilience gained by facing the pandemic, can be used as channeled self-energy to propel students into long lasting academic success.
This workshop will begin with a presentation that explains the concept of grit & resilience. Jaime Carias will explain that although times are difficult, grit and resilience are powerful tools for success. The presentation will be done in Spanish and English.
Attendance Awareness
Building strong, trusting relationships that promote belonging is fundamental to improving student attendance and participation.
- Parents and caregivers are one of the most underutilized resources in education. Establishing ongoing communication with families/caregivers and welcoming them as partners helps ensure that students are supported at home and in school.
- Strong, trusting relationships motivate students to attend school even when it isn’t easy to get to class or participate in distance learning.
- Caring adults, such as teachers, mentors and afterschool providers are critical to encouraging families and students to pay attention to absences adding up and to seek out help to overcome barriers.
- Responding to the social-emotional learning goals and needs of students, families and staff is essential, especially during the transition into this new school year, if we want children and youth to benefit fully from education.

Fitness Feature
Zooming into Elementary Physical Education
School is definitely different this school year, and Physical Education is adjusting to the changes along with the other subject areas. We have been so excited to see students again, even though it is in a virtual setting. We definitely would rather be together, but since we are not we are making the best of our new virtual classrooms. Having access to technology in PE is allowing teachers to use different teaching tools that we could not utilize in the past. We can use videos more often to demonstrate skills. We can use digital worksheets. Google classrooms enable students to communicate with us easier during office hours. We are finding new innovative ways to teach PE.
The first few weeks we had to spend time showing students how to maneuver our virtual classroom, but we are excited to start moving more and more. I know we have spent a lot of time sitting, so it is so important to start moving. It is important for overall health; physical, mental and emotional health. Families can help their students at home by finding space for their student to move. It may mean moving their computer to an open space for PE time. Keeping their cameras on is super important, especially in PE so that PE teachers can provide feedback. This is definitely a different year, and we appreciate everyone’s grace and grit. We have grit and we will not quit. We are in this together. Let’s keep moving together!
Zooming into Middle School Physical Education
Middle school P.E is up and going in the virtual world. This will be our 3rd week being active. Activities that students have been participating in are ladder drills, full body fitness, cardiovascular, flexibility, muscular endurance and strength. It has been challenging, but students enjoy working out again. Thank you parents for supporting our program by helping your student be ready, present, and having their camera focused. Also, we appreciate your help in reminding your student to complete weekly assignments. Our goal is for students to not only be academicly successful, but become lifelong movers.
Thanks and Celebrations
Thank you to our office staff who have been very busy communicating with families and helping keep the school running! Additionally, Our SUPERvision aides are working hard to distribute devices, prepare materials for distribution, and communicate with our families! Thank you!
