Three days in...we're doing it! I am so proud of everyone, from our remote students and teachers, to our in-person staff and students. Everyone is doing what they can to make this return to school successful! Thank you so much for your partnership, your patience, and your trust. We are all looking forward to next week as we phase into our new normal schedules.


As we have our first lunches of the school year next week, please be mindful of what you are including in your child's lunch. Things they can open without adult assistance is preferred. There's a great visual below showing some suggestions.

Schedule Change!

Schedules change on Monday! We will be starting our regular schedule with our K-2 friends!


KINDERGARTEN

Monday, August 24th, Kindergarten students will begin their regular half day schedule.

  • AM Kindergarten: 8:00-10:15
  • PM Kindergarten: 11:25 - 1:40



1st - 2nd Grade

Monday, August 24th, 1st and 2nd grade students will begin their regular schedule.

  • 8:00 am - 1:40 pm
  • Lunch will be served



3rd - 5th Grade

Monday, August 24th - Tuesday August 25th, 3rd - 5th graders will be remote.

  • This remote day will be a regular day from 8:00 am - 1:40 pm.



Wednesday, August 26th, 3rd- 5th graders begin their regular, in-person schedules.

  • 8:00 am - 1:40 pm
  • Lunch will be served

Arrival/Dismissal Updates

For the first three days of school, with new procedures, it went really well! Just a few reminders/updates:


  • We will not have supervision until 7:45 am. Please don't drop off students prior to that time.
  • Cars can only enter and exit using Burr Road as the Bolcum entrance/exits are used for buses only.
  • Please do not park and walk up to drop off or pick up your children. You need to stay in your car. We need to limit the number of people on our sidewalks. This includes parking on the side of the building. Please use the car lane.
  • Please do not park in the car lane and walk your child to their door. We have many adults outside to support arrival. The morning drop off is not a time to conference with your child's teacher.
  • If you need to get out of your vehicle and come up to the building for any reason, you must have a mask on.
  • Please communicate changes to your child's dismissal routine to both the teacher and the office.
I know there is congestion on Burr road due to our arrival and dismissal. We have a substantial amount of car traffic. However, our dismissal traffic is moving faster than it ever has before. I will continue to monitor the traffic and reevaluate after we have settled into a routine for a couple of weeks.

In order to help our daily procedures, we ask that you complete this form. This will help us know your child’s daily dismissal plans. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to make arrival and dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.

Attendance

Both Remote and In-Person students need to report absences to their home school. Please call the main office if your child will be missing school, whether they are in person or remote. Thanks!

Student Self-Certification

Please remember to follow our two step certification process by completing both the online form and by signing the luggage tag prior to your child arriving at school. Thank you to the parents who called the school or emailed the teacher if they forgot to sign the tag. That sped up our morning process!


  • Step 1: Log-in here, using your HAC credentials. Answer the questions honestly. If you receive the green "you are good to go" screen, your child is clear to come to school. You do not need to print the green ticket.
  • Step 2: Initial your child's luggage tag (that we will be providing you) signifying your completion of the online form.

Children who are not certified will not be allowed in school until they are certified by parents. Luggage tags were replaced today with new ones for next week. If your child is absent today, feel free to just flip over this week's form, date and initial it on Monday, and we will replace it with a new tag when they return to school.


3rd- 5th grade students will be given their luggage tags during their scheduled visit with their teacher.

School Issued Devices & Tech Help

If you need technical support with devices, please use the live chat instead of their phone line. It can be found here: https://district.d303.org/elearning-tech-support


Devices will be brought home on a daily basis, and should be charged at home nightly. We will not be storing devices in classrooms.


Your child's email address is their 800#@students.d303.org. You find their 800#, which is their student ID, by logging in to your HAC account.


Passwords for students who were at Ferson last year are the first two letters of last name +fer (i.e.smfer). Some 5th graders may have unique passwords that they created themselves.


If you are new to Ferson, passwords are the first two letters of FIRST name +123 (i.e.jo123).

Teacher Assignments

During this unique time of educating students in both remote and in-person settings, we are making every effort to balance class sizes and maintain a sense of community for all our students. As parents continue to request changes for their children, impacting both remote and in person class size, we will need to continue to shift personnel and adjust the remote and in person classroom makeups. While continuity is our goal, these adjustments may result in changes in placements. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide meaningful educational experiences for all our students.

Extra Extra!

As we will be wearing masks most of the day, it is important that your child packs at least one, if not two, clean masks in their backpack. If their mask gets wet or dirty, we want to make sure we have a new one for them to use. Keeping a baggie of extra masks in their backpack will help tremendously during the day!


With that, we are trying to limit unnecessary trips to the nurse's office. Frequently, students need an extra shirt or pants because of a spill or getting dirty outside. I am suggesting that all students pack an extra change of clothes in a labeled ziplock bag to keep at school. This way, if they are in need, we have a quick change of clothes ready to go and they won't need a trip to the nurse's office.

We have two new staff members to introduce! See welcome letters from orchestra teacher Mr. Dan O'Connell , and band teacher Mr. Tyler Brooks.

Snacks

Elementary students will not be allowed to eat in the classroom during instructional time. Teachers may provide a break, including while outside, for students to eat a snack.


I am also suggesting flip top/straw water bottles. These typically prevent spilling and are easier to access with masks.

Young Rembrants - Drawing on Demand

Although we will not be holding Young Rembrandts before school, there is still an opportunity for your child to participate in the program remotely. through Young Rembrandts "Drawing On Demand" classes.


Drawing On-Demand! No schedules and no expiration… when you purchase an on-demand package we’ll send you a set of hour-long drawing classes right to your inbox. Have your kids draw whenever you need a break… 7am? 7pm? We’ve got you covered! Young Rembrandts is excited to offer a new series of drawings featuring our Founder, Bette Fetter as Instructor. These lessons provide fresh, interactive and fun content. E-drawing will continue to develop your little Artist's fundamental art literacy skills and academic knowledge and fun. Registered participants will receive a link to the online courses. Keep your kiddos busy with YR at home.

Supplies needed: a piece of paper, a pencil, a sharpie, and colored markers/crayons.


Families can choose from 8 different groups of lower cost video packages. (5 lessons for the price of 4= $40 ). These will be available thru December and possibly the whole school year. Parents pick ONE or MORE. It is their CHOICE.
