Eagle Academy Weekly Update
Week of May 31, 2020
Egg Harbor Township Virtual Graduation
EHT graduation information is available by clicking the link below. Here is an excerpt from the letter:
We will be holding 2 graduation ceremonies; virtual and in-person. Once caps and gowns have been distributed, students will be asked to complete a google slide that their English teacher will provide. These slides will be put together for the virtual graduation ceremony to be aired on June 18, 2020. The second graduation we anticipate will be on July 8th with more details to follow as logistics depend on the governor’s executive orders. We ask that all students be a part of the virtual graduation so we have everyone being recognized. Please know that the in-person graduation will not be mandatory, as many of our students will have already left the area for the military and/or college.
In the meantime, the Project Graduation Committee continues to engage in fun and creative celebration ideas for our seniors. They plan to hold a raffle drawing for some great prizes, just as they would have done during our project graduation night. Students whose names are drawn will be notified and the prize will be delivered to them by Project Graduation Committee members.
Our virtual schedule
- Each class period will meet once per week from 9-10 or 11-12, Tuesday thru Thursday.
- Mondays and Fridays are check-in days. Students are expected to contact their teachers for any help they need, or for work they have missed.
Class times are not the only times students are expecting to be working. Teachers give assignments and follow-up work that is expected to be done during other than class times.
Please be sure to attend all live classes with your teachers!
Parents, would you like a Weekly report card?
It’s a weekly snapshot of how your child is doing in each class. Google classroom automatically generates a parent/guardian email report. It includes work done, not done, any grades, etc. in all of the student’s Google classes. Parents & guardians will be getting an invitation from Google classroom in your email in-box. Simply respond to the email and you’ll start getting those reports. If you don’t see an email invite check your spam folder. Or, it could be we don’t have your correct email address. Please contact Director Smith if you would like another invite sent.
As always, parents should also check the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus for up-to-date grades in all their child's classes.

History Movie Night
USI: We are still on WWI, so The Lost Batallion and 1917 remain the picks of the week. There are other WWI movies, like Passchendale, and the classic All Quiet on the Western Front. There is also an excellent documentary by Peter Jackson called They Shall Not Grow Old. Let me know if you find a different one!
USII: This week we are studying the era that took place when I was in grade school: the George Bush years of the late 80s and early 90s. Of course, Jarhead is rated R for language, much like Saving Private Ryan, but its darkly ironic take on the first Gulf War makes it far less family friendly, so be aware. Popular hits of the time include Wayne's World and Point Break, as well as Home Alone, Backdraft, Big, and Beetlejuice, and the last bit of Forrest Gump. Enjoy!
World Cultures: Now that we are studying the Cold War, there are any number of great films about spies, like Tom Hanks' Bridge of Spies, or space films like First Man or the classic The Right Stuff. You could just watch Forrest Gump, or any number of war movies from the era. Let me know if you pick one that isn't listed!
Warm Weather is Finally Here!
School Nurse Newsletter (Happy Nurse's Day!)
Even though we are currently not in the office we are checking our emails regularly throughout the week. We are also checking the voicemails left in the office. Any questions or concerns with regards to medical inquiries please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Keeping You and Your Family Safe.
While we are learning more about this virus every day, there is still much that is unknown at this time. What we do know is that practicing hand hygiene and social distancing is imperative. Social distancing is deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Staying at least six feet away from other people lessens your chances of catching COVID-19. What does this mean for you?
1. Wash your hands as often as you can (Remember to sing the ABC’s or Happy Birthday song)
2. Refrain from large gatherings
3. Be proactive in your health and well-being
4. Practice prevention
