Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the Week of November 16-20. Our school schedule is modified for the week (see information below). Teachers will contact you to schedule a virtual conference time.

No, regular music, art and PE specials classes and world language workshops will not be scheduled that week.

However, Ms. Arcari and Mrs. Cardona, our RLE PE and music teachers, will offer workshop-style sessions for all PreK-5 students. Please see this Conference Week Specials Workshop sign-up form which will also forwarded to all families via School Messenger and through classroom teachers next week.

What can I expect at Parent-Teacher Conferences?

You will receive your child's report card from your classroom teacher via email on Friday, November 13.

Reviewing the report card is just one part of the parent-teacher conference; conferences are an important opportunity for dialogue between you and your child's remote learning teacher. I hope you will bring your questions, celebrations, and observations of your child's learning at home to share. Your child's teacher will be prepared to share observations of your child's transition to the remote learning school environment, development of social-emotional learning skills, and progress toward mathematics and literacy targets.

Veterans Day 2020

Students will be learning about Veterans Day during Morning Meeting on November 11. They will understand why we celebrate and honor veterans on this day. We will provide through asynchronous learning postings the opportunity for students to engage in oral history interviews with veterans in their lives and/or writing Thanksgiving letters to those currently serving in the military.

Grade 5 Human Growth and Development

Please read the information letter and reply to this form by October 30 to confirm your child's participation in Human Growth and Development lessons in December. Please contact Lisa Daly, Department Supervisor for Health and Physical Education at Lisa_Daly@whps.org with any questions.

West Hartford teacher, Eric Feeney, runs a nonprofit called "Friends of Feeney." Their mission is to help children and families who need assistance after heartbreak and tragedy. We just received news about their upcoming 10/31 Cardboard Challenge! While it may be late to participate this year, it's not too late to find out more about this local organization or how to participate in the Challenge in the future. Our own RLE paraprofessional staff member Nancy Wallace-Sohn is on the Board of Directors and quoted in last year's Courant Community article:

Halloween Drive-Through Trick-or Treat Event 10/31 10AM-12PM

Town of West Hartford to hold a free Halloween Drive-Through Trick-or-Treating event on Saturday, October 31, 10AM-12PM

West Hartford will hold a free Halloween Drive-Through Trick-or-Treating event on Saturday, October 31, 10AM to 12PM, at Sedgwick Middle School, 128 Sedgwick Road.

Cars should enter via Wardwell Road and follow the driveway around the school and exit out onto Sedgwick Road. At the mid-way point cars will stop at the candy distribution center. Candy bags will be placed in your vehicle. Volunteers will be wearing personal protective gear. In keeping with COVID-safety rules, please stay in your vehicle at all times.

Along the way, children can look out their window and see fire trucks and a cast of characters dressed in costumes. Families can get into the spirit by decorating their car and dressing in costumes too.

Special thanks to the Town of West Hartford, West Hartford Fire Union, Blue Back Square, Chamber of Commerce and Costco for their donations and support.
