THANK YOU!!
It was amazing how you all came together as individual teams to create an experience for our guests. I know it was not easy... I know it took a lot of hard work and preparation... but once again, your purpose took over and ignored Harvey's attempts at disrupting your traditions. You "Taylor Swift" shook off the ice age days we lost and moved forward because it benefited your students and the community. You brought normalcy back to a year where "normal" has been hibernating.
So to all that were here and made sacrifices to make this event happen... THANK YOU! You are appreciated.

6th Grade
7th Grade
This week in 7th grade ELA, students are enhancing their writing by utilizing different elements of the writing process while referring to primary and secondary text sources. Students are also using graphic organizers/thinking maps to plan and draft. In the picture on the left, students are working on a DBQ with the focus of overcoming adversity while also identifying writing elements using color-coding which they will then practice transferring to their own writing (this is known as an “Invitation to Notice and Invitation to Imitate”). In the picture on the right, students are working on producing an evidence-based response to text (also known as a SAR) using the novel, “Watsons go to Birmingham”. The students are expected to use the information from the novel to respond to the question provided, have been taught specific writing strategies to implement when writing an evidence-based response. First one to tell Mr. Lopez a "knock-knock" joke wins a prize!
8th Grade
This week in 8th grade the focus is on elements of persuasion (writing) and human rights (literature). In the pictures below, the students are working collaboratively in stations to discuss human rights and develop reading/language skills. The picture on the left shows students at the “US Response Station”, where they are provided 2 articles related to human rights that they are expected to (collaboratively) read, annotate, create a double-bubble (compare/contrast) thinking map, and complete discussion questions from the text. In the picture on the right, students are working at the “Inferencing Station” using pictures to identify/explain how individuals use visuals to persuade and elicit responses from their audience.
Title I - Preparing for SGI
Following whole group (direct instruction), Mrs. Sampson prepares her students to participate in collaborative groups. She not only verbally tells the students her expectations for completion of the assignment, but uses classroom technology to assist her students with comprehension. In the picture, Mrs. Sampson is asking for clarification from one of her students regarding the directions she has provided. The visual instructions are also displayed during the duration of the group work time.
