Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of January 29th
Highlights from last week....
In Phonics, we focused on spelling words by tapping them out.
We also practiced writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking at the picture, the first letter and then looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. This is where the majority of the class is with regards to their reading. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great!
In Writer's Workshop, we focused on sequential writing using the words first, then and finally. The children are doing a wonderful job!
In Math, we finished our module on comparing numbers.
In Science, we tied our nonfiction reading into our living and nonliving unit. The children are really understanding what a living thing needs to be alive.
A peek at our learning this week....
We will continue to practice writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.

This week in Writer's Workshop, we will be focusing on editing our work and writing sentences using our "tapping" skills to write words in the sentences. The children are doing a great job with their writing.
In Math, we will be starting our next module. We will be working on breaking numbers apart and putting them together using number bonds.
1/2 DAY OF SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY
VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY- Wednesday, February 14th
We will also be having our Valentine's Day party on Wednesday, February 14th. This week there will be a notice about a family homework project. It goes with a Valentine Poem. We would like you to create a Valentine box with your child. Your child will be using the box to gather the Valentine cards that will be exchanged. Please send in the completed box to school on or before February 9th. Have fun and be creative. If funds are tight and you cannot afford to purchase valentines, we discussed that homemade valentines are just as great as store bought. Let us know and we can send home some construction paper for you. If you would like to send in a yummy treat for the party, please let us know by sending in a note in your child's folder. Thank you in advance for you help!
100th Day of School
More information
Many parents are asking what the class needs for supplies. We could use some Clorox Wipes and paper towels. Thank you in advance.
FLASHCARDS
Please practice letters and sounds with your child nightly! Thank you!
Notes from Miss Driscoll
Book bags are being sent home, please have your child read to you nightly. They are becoming great readers! I will switch the books on Fridays! I am also going to send Home flash cards without the picture cards so please continue practicing. We are working very hard on tapping out CVC words like cat, hat, bat. This is a great skill to practice at home with your children. They are very excited when they are able to figure out the word.
I was unable to send out the book orders last week so they will be due next Tuesday, February 6th. Please return or order online by then.
This Wednesday, January 31st is a half day.
Have a wonderful week!
Notes from Mrs. Maillet
There has been a lot of illness going through the school, and we have had many friends out sick. I am hoping that this will pass quickly and they will all be feeling better. In the meantime, we are disinfecting as much as possible and encouraging students to wash hands frequently. Thanks to all that donated clorox wipes and paper towels!!
Supplies NEEDED: Our crayons have seen better days! If any of you would like to donate some crayons, we would be VERY grateful!! Thank you in advance for your help!
Notes from Mrs. Potter
Please keep up the hard work reading and reviewing sight words at home! If your child knows all the sight word cards, try writing the words on the back of the picture cards to see if they are also able to identify the words without the picture clues.
For some extra practice that might be beneficial, try writing some CVC words (consonant vowel consonant) and see if your child can tap and blend the sounds together! Ex: red, sag, tub, pin, mop. Many of our friends are doing great tapping out the sounds but have a little trouble when it comes to blending those sounds together, especially the ending sound!
Reminders: Wednesday is a half day. Book orders are due Friday! 2/2/18
Thank you for all that you do! :)
Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
We also assessed the children on their current reading level abilities and I was so pleased (and the children were too!).
I ask that you please practice the high frequency words that were sent home, we will be updating the words and sending more home this week. The children's quick recognition of these words helps them in their daily reading.
We had a lot of sickness in our class this week, Miss Ellee and I have been disinfecting the room every chance we get! We have also stressed the importance of hand washing. Let's hope last week was the end of all the sickness! We are always welcoming donations of disinfecting wipes and appreciate those who have sent them in.
I will be sending home information tomorrow in regards to our Valentine's Day and 100th Day of School activities.
Have a great (and healthy) week!
Mrs. Marcoux
Notes From Mrs. Goldthwaite
We have another High school senior joining us for her internship. Miss Hannah was a former student of mine 12 years ago...boy time goes by so fast.
I love seeing how we are engaged in our learning. We are doing a great job with all our targets and feeling pretty good that we are learning so many things.
We have been in school for 90 school days. We are half way done with kindergarten. In 10 school days it will be the 100th day of school. We will be doing activities that have to do with the number 100. It should be a fun day.
I hope you have read the February activity. The students are excited to make a valentines box. If you have any questions please ask. When you are done please send it in to be out for others to see. I can't wait to see what you create.
Sickness is still in the classroom. I do try to wash tables and door handles often. If you can send in Clorox wipes I will continue.
Thank you for all your support.
