A Message from our Counselor Ms. Wendy Muro
I am so excited to be with JME and I can’t wait to pop into classrooms and say hi!! I am also looking forward to introducing our new counseling intern, Ms. Nunez. Ms. Nunez will also be popping in classrooms with me this Friday. She and I can’t wait to see our students smiling faces.
I truly miss being on campus but keeping everyone safe during this time is so important. However, it doesn’t mean we don’t have big feelings. I want to remind everyone to please have compassion and empathy for themselves and others during this time. There is so much we are learning and adjusting to that we can easily become frustrated and confused. Especially, our students who are having to navigate distance learning and not able to engage with their friends and teachers like they were hoping to. So the words of the month that I hope we can keep close to our hearts are EMPATHY and COMPASSION!
Please remember to be kind to yourself and spread empathy and compassion throughout your day. Sending you all positive wishes. One way I hope to stay connected with all of you is through my google site and google classroom. Please check it out!

18th Annual MRC/MEF Run for Education
Registration is open for the 18th Annual MRC/MEF Run for Education to benefit the Martinez Unified School District. This year's event will be held virtually. So anyone, anywhere can participate! Runners and walkers are encouraged to create their own race and set their own pace. The Run is the major fundraiser for the Martinez Education Foundation each year and is sponsored by Martinez Refining Company. All proceeds from entry fees and sponsorships go to Martinez Unified School District schools in the form of MEF grants.
The event will kick-off on September 27, participants will have a week to complete and record their time (if desired) by October 3. We are striving to cross the line in having raised One Million dollars for MUSD in 18 years! We encourage parents and students to join in the fun! If you participate, be sure to take pictures of your walk/run with your run shirts and use the hashtag #mefmrcrun on Facebook and Instagram.
To support MEF, partake in the Virtual Run or learn more, visit MEF’s website: www.martinezedfoundation.org/run-for-education/
District Oversight Committee
The Martinez community has always shown its dedication to education, proven by the approval of two bonds and a parcel tax in the past ten years:
- With the passage of the Measure K Bond in 2010 the District has been able to modernize old rooms and construct new classrooms at Alhambra, build the new Vicente/Briones campus, complete deferred maintenance projects at aging facilities, improve network infrastructure throughout the District, install solar arrays at every site saving millions to the General Fund, and so much more.
- When the community passed the Measure R Bond in 2016, with the intent to improve elementary facilities, the District got down to work with architects, construction managers, and stakeholders. Now four years later the new John Muir Elementary campus is nearing completion, we are preparing to break ground on the Las Juntas Elementary campus replacement project in the fall, and planning is moving swiftly on John Swett and Morello Park.
- In 2018 the community of Martinez voted to renew and increase a parcel tax that had been in effect for over ten years. This has allowed the District to continue funding salaries and supplies for music education, as well as visual and performing arts throughout MUSD.
