Contributing to the Classroom

Many of you have been asking about contributing/donating to the classroom.

Here's the link to view Ms. Shirazi's wishlist on Amazon:

Please be sure to link your Amazon account to Amazon SMILE where it will let you choose WEST HOLLYWOOD. Amazon will donate a portion of your purchases straight back to the school!

Once you've done that, please search for "Ms. Shirazi Kindergarten" and it will take you to her list :)

Annual Gala - Important news for Ms. Shirazi's class!

Our Annual Gala is fast approaching and you know what that means? The competition is on for who can build the best Grade Basket! The basket that goes for the most money at the Live Auction on March 21, 2015 will win a Pizza & Ice Cream Party!

DOES ANYONE WANT TO HEAD THIS UP!?! Please let me know!!

To get started we have to come up with a great anchor item or two. For example, you reply, “ Hey, I have a vacation home in Palm Springs that I could donate for 2 nights”. Great! We have a theme. "Dessert Delight!” Don’t laugh, the names will be better by that night, I promise. We then throw out the idea to the whole class….maybe suggest some nice sunglasses, a gift card to Las Casuelas, tickets to the PS Tram and presto, we have a basket. Basically, after we get feedback from all of you, we’ll start to piece together the donations and create a basket.

Some ideas from the past years are as follows: Lakers Mania, The Ultimate Staycation (local luxuries), All Star (baseball theme) and Pop Rock (tickets to concerts & cosmetics).

Please get back to me if you you want to be in charge of this fun project!

And if any of you have anything we can start with or ideas for a theme... A box will be left in the classroom or can coordinate a pick-up with you once we get started. We must fill out and attach forms to the items once they start coming in. Here is a link to the donation form:

Please write "For Kindergarten Basket" somewhere on the donation form before you turn in your item. Very important: Please don’t turn in anything w/out a form!

This is one of the most exciting, biggest DEALS of the night so let’s WIN this and make loads of money for our kids!

Thank you!

100 day project!!

You may have noticed in your child's folder there is a REQUIRED project! Your child needs to display 100 pictures in a creative way!

It is due Feb. 2 so best to start now! It might make it a bit easier if everyday you child finds 20 pictures for their project. You it out a bit:)

Stop & Drop Valet - IT'S OUR TURN!

Some of you have already been graciously volunteering for stop & drop this year but it's now OFFICIALLY our turn! Thank you to all who have ALREADY signed up!

The Stop & Drop program allows children to be dropped off in a controlled area and escorted onto campus. It is staffed entirely by parent volunteers.

For Volunteers

  • We need families to take 10 shifts per year to be fully staffed. Volunteer shifts are arranged by student grade and February is TK/K's turn!
  • Please arrive for your shift by 7:45.
  • When arriving, please pick up a safety vest from the rear stairwell on the first floor.
  • Safety cones (also in the rear stairwell) should be placed on painted dots on Hammond and Harratt Streets.
  • No children on the sidewalk or curb, please! Your student can be sent to the play yards during your shift.
  • Valet services end at 8:15. Students arriving after this time should be escorted by their parents inside school.

Many thanks to parents who have introduced and welcomed in our new families. I know that makes the transition easier and means a lot to them. Thank you!

Also many thanks to parents dropping off and picking up your child at school on time and saying your good byes at the door. This limits disruptions and helps students transition into class smoothly.

Rainbow words (sight words)- practice and read sight words every night. I'd like ALL students begin Level 2 rainbow words by end of January. Sight words require rote memory skills, using the flash cards repeatedly and finding the words ohm books is effective (review and practice previous rainbow words passed).

Daily practice work, many class books, loose papers go home daily. This is meant to give you active insight into your child current work, understandings, practices and learning everyday. Please check and review blank places or incorrect answers with your child.

The class books- have your child read them to you. And ask your child to make up their own story using they pictures from the books.

Wishlist- with our new students we need a few things, listed below. You may find them on the Amazon Wish List. Also, parents are welcome to purchase them from somewhere else and send in items. Drop off- in the office, before or after school via Amazon delivery:

*7 chair book bags, **highest priority

Pencil boxes,

Books!! (I recently purchased sets but need more)

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
