Open Plan

Main Features:

An open plan office is a large space with very little walls, there are no seperate rooms so everyone is working together. this is different to a cellular office which has cubicles for each person.

Advantages:

  • Easy to communicate with others
  • You don't feel confined
  • You can work as a team
  • The workers can be watched more easily
  • You can move around more
  • Everyone can be told something at once

Disadvantages:

  • There is less privacy as people can see and hear you
  • People are more easily distracted by others
  • It might get hotter because of the amount of computers and people in one room
  • Your work can easily be copied by others
  • Equipment can be stolen
  • Can be noisey

Examples of where open plan offices are used:

  • Schools
  • Call centres
  • Small businesses
