It is time for March is Reading Month in the West Bloomfield School District! All month long our students and staff member will be participating in fun reading-related activities in our schools. We highly suggest you follow the fun on our Twitter account with highlights from around the district being posted each day.

Looking ahead to next week, we have an important reminder for families:

  • The West Bloomfield School District will be CLOSED on Tuesday, March 10 for Election Day.

Gretchko Ribbon-Cutting - TONIGHT!

Join us at Gretchko Elementary as we celebrate the completion of bond work at the school with a ribbon-cutting ceremony prior to the school's Spring Fling. The ribbon-cutting ceremony starts at 5 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend!

March 10 - No School for Students or Staff

March 16 - Early Release Day for all Schools

March 23 - Normal Day of School for all Students - the school day ends at your building's normally scheduled time

March 30-April 3 - Spring Break - No School for Students or Staff

WB Symphonic Winds earns top award!

Shout out to the WBHS Symphonic Winds on earning a Division I rating at their recent festival!

Vannostrand named Teacher of the Month!

Shahenda Vannostrand from Sheiko Elementary was recently recognized as Teacher of the Month by Representative Mari Manoogian. The representative also helped Ms. Vannostrand's classroom kick-off March is Reading Month by sharing the book, Grace goes to Washington with the students.

Roosevelt celebrates Design Prize Showcase!

Roosevelt Elementary recently hosted its Michigan Design Prize Showcase on Feb. 28. Students throughout the building had the opportunity to showcase their design projects for their families, community members, and even their fellow students.

Several stations were set up throughout the building so visitors had the opportunity to meet one on one with students about their designs and ask questions to find out more information.

OLMS Band Students participate in DSO Honor Band Day!

Orchard Lake Middle School Beginning Band Students participated in the DSO Honor Band Day at Orchestra Hall, Monday, March 2. Students were nominated by their band director to participate. The students worked with members of the Detroit Symphony and other music professionals, rehearsing all day and presenting a concert with over 300 other young musicians, represented in three different bands.

WB Pom-Pon Camp Rescheduled!

The Pom-Pon camp that was previously scheduled for Feb. 26 has been rescheduled for this Saturday, March 7. Please visit the Community Education webpage for more information and to register.

Michigan Week Nominations now OPEN!

You are invited to nominate recipients for awards to be presented at the 2020 Michigan Week Community Awards Breakfast. Find the nomination form and award categories on the Michigan Week website. All nominations are due by 11:59 PM on March 11, 2020.

State of the Communities - March 12

Four Detroit area municipalities will join together for the second annual “State of the Communities” presentation providing area citizens a chance to recognize the accomplishments of the past year and learn of future goals. Participating are West Bloomfield Township and the cities of Orchard Lake Village, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake. The West Bloomfield School District will also be participating with the help of our Student Ambassadors.

This unique event will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the Gymnasium at Abbott Middle School.

OLMS presents "Beauty and the Beast Jr."

Orchard Lake Middle School is presenting "Beauty and the Beast Jr." on March 20-21 at West Bloomfield High School. Tickets are on sale now at ShowTix4U.com and will be available at the door.

There will also be a special "Princess Party" on March 15 at WBHS where attendees are able to have a special meet and greet with Belle and several of her friends. Information for the Princess Part is also available at ShowTix4U.com.

WBHS students nominated for 2020 State Farm Fan Favorite Award!

The West Bloomfield High School PSA is titled "Dear Drunk Driver".

The school of the video with the highest votes will receive $2,500 and the student/team that created that video will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

WB Youth Assistance seeks Award Nominations

WBYA recognizes young people from our community for making positive volunteer contributions every year. Nominations come from schools, hospitals, religious organizations, fire and police departments, and private citizens. Local, county, and state dignitaries participate in recognizing the nominees and making the event very special.
