Social Studies: We will begin our next unit, Early Colonies, when we return from MLK Day.

Reading: We began our new read aloud, Touching Spirit Bear, this week. Our next round of Book Clubs will begin next week. This time around, I will create Book Club groups on Edmodo for the children to have a means of communicating about the book outside of class. I am automatically added to every group, so I will be able to monitor/participate in the discussions.

Writing: The children are finishing their Book Recommendations on Monday, and we will begin our Opinion writing unit. We will do this by working on our first DBQ (Document Based Question).

Science: The Astronomy chapter has flown by quickly. We are definitely on track to have the test on Thursday. Please make sure that your child is reviewing/teaching you each night. Our last two Dr. Doug sessions have involved Astronomy in different ways, so much of what the children need to know has been discussed recently. However, I encouraged the children to teach you so they can find any areas of confusion. Then we can clear those up in class. :-)

Science Fair Projects: The projects have been presented by those that were interested in presenting in our classroom. All the projects will be judged on Monday, then they will be moved to Performers Paradise. Winners will be announced Tuesday morning on the news show. Tuesday after recess, I am alotting time for the children to check out the various projects. Parents are welcome to join us! I'm sure you are all extremely relieved to have this process over! :-)

In Math, our next unit will cover Volume. However, we are finishing up Order of Operations (those pesky exponents have been a bit of a pain) at the beginning of next week. Due to the coming short week, we will not have Super Star Math again. ALEKS homework is still expected.
