News and Notes From the Principal

Dear, Mustang Families -

I hope the message finds you all happy and well. We had another great week at Maplewood Middle School. The school year is now in full swing. Athletics started last week, and our TOPS after-school program begins this week! Here are a few items I want to make sure you are aware of as we begin a new week.

Family Schoology Access - As most of you know, Schoology is the learning management system we use at Maplewood Middle school and all 622 secondary schools. Please take a moment and visit the Schoology Orientation for Families link. It shows you how to navigate Schoology, so you can stay up to speed on what’s going on in your child’s classes.

Measure of Academic Progress Assessment: The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments are adaptive tests that estimate a student’s current instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year to year. ISD 622 students in grades 6-9 take the reading and math MAP Growth assessments three times each year (fall, winter, and spring). Information from these tests helps teachers determine what students already know and what they are ready to learn next so that classroom instruction can be targeted to students’ needs. Results will be shared with families. Students will take the first round of MAP tests later this month. For more MAP information, see the NWEA MAP Family Toolkit.

Homecoming Football Game at North High: Many of our students and families have a strong connection to North High. Next week is Homecoming Week at North. If your child plans to go to the Homecoming football game next Friday, 9/17, please note that students who do not attend North will not be admitted to the game unless they are with their own parent or guardian. This rule will be strictly enforced.

We are here to help. Please reach out to the school at 651-748-6500 if you have any questions or need help with something.

Thanks,

Eric Mjolsness

Principal
