Longhorn Stampede

2018-19: Leading the Herd (1)

Big picture

Welcome Back, Longhorns!

Lone Star Families,
Please read all the way through to the end of this newsletter. It contains an exciting piece of information just for you!

We can't wait to see your smiling faces at Meet the Teacher this week! Remember that if you will be walking your child to class on the first day, you will want to drop your license off so we can run your V-soft sticker while you walk around. Pick up your tag on the way out, and you will be able to skip the long line on Day 1!

Walking your children back:
Any/Every Day - All parents may walk to the Hug&Kiss zone in the foyer, and children will continue past the hallway doors on their own (We always have staff in the hallways to help!)
Day 1 (August 21) - All grades; parents must have visitor sticker
Days 1-3 (August 21, 22, 23) PK and Kdg; parents must check in at front desk and get visitor sticker
Days 1-5 (August 21, 22, 23, 24, 27) PK; parents must check in at front desk and get visitor sticker

Thank you! This helps us ensure that staff attention is focused on children and safe protocols are in practice.

Meet Your 1st grade Teacher: Mrs. Swanson, room 215

Hi! Welcome to Lone Star Elementary. My name is Michelle Swanson. I am excited to be your child’s First Grade teacher this year. This will be my 24th year in education. I have taught Pre-K, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, and Fourth Grade.

I have high expectations for your child’s academics and your child’s social relationships. We will have a lot of fun each day and will become a school family. My goal is for your child to lead the way in all areas as we learn phonics, reading comprehension strategies, strong writing skills, comprehensive math tools, social studies elements, and science applications.

I am looking forward to getting to know your child and your family. I love hearing about hobbies, ways your time is spent, funny things, and all your memories. I want to build lasting relationships as I see your child each year at LSE.

I have been married for 27 years and have two sons who are both in college. I value time with my family and cherish our memories. I enjoy walking my dog and my grand-dog in the woods. I love watching baseball and basketball. I like to relax by reading and watching movies. I am available through my email at michelle.swanson@misd.org. I also hope you will sign up for Class Dojo so that you can experience our fun times at school. We will be able to text each as a group and privately using Dojo. I also have a website set up through LSE using the Staff link. My phone number is (936) 524-6464. I am available to you and look forward to a fantastic year. Thanks!!

Parents, please feel free to email a picture of your child and a few sentences about them to your child's teacher in response.
