The Wolf Howl
Week of December 4-8, 2017
What makes a teacher a great teacher?
Instead of sitting still and listening, they make fun plans that require us to move and do things.
Making sure they find out if you really understand
They make us feel like we are a somebody instead of a nobody.
They ask us “How are you doing”?
They make you laugh.
They make us feel like we are all one big family?
When you don’t understand, they stay calm and explain it in other ways to help you understand.
The role of a teacher is the lifeline of education. What you do or don't do is on constant display, as we shape the lives of tomorrow. Such a huge undertaking when you think about it. I want to pause from the business of what we do to say ....Thank you for making such a difference!

Principal's Institute -Cohort 7
At the end of last year, I was selected by Dr. Ryan to represent GCISD in the 7th cohort of the Texas Principal's Visioning Insitute. In this cohort I am collaborating with other forward-thinking principals, from districts all across Texas, to examine practices, revisit our goals, and tackle issues related to the future of public education. The commitment is great, the takeaway even greater. We are tasked with attending six conferences, from September to June in Dallas, Austin, and Houston. It is truly rewarding work that I am honored to be chosen to be a part of. Below are links to the Visioning document as well as a link to the Principal's Institute's website.

Hour of Code- Monday, December 4 (Wolf Time- Non RtI Students)
Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet. But fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. Good news is, we’re on our way to change this! If you've heard about the Hour of Code before, you might know it made history. More than 100 million students have tried an Hour of Code.
With the Hour of Code, computer science has been on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and Disney. Over 100 partners have joined together to support this movement. Every Apple Store in the world has hosted an Hour of Code, and leaders like President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote their first lines of code as part of the campaign.
This year, let's make it even bigger. I’m asking you to join the Hour of Code 2017. Please get involved with an Hour of Code event during Computer Science Education Week, December 4-10.

Housekeeping
- Please remind students about our no gum policy if you see them chewing in your class.
- Thank you for making sure students have hallway passes when you release them from your classes.
- As we near the end of the semester, be mindful of your grading categories, specifically, if you are weighting tests to represent a 40% or more of their grades, please be sure that you have given more than 1 test, as that misrepresents the nature of that practice.
- Cell phones. If you take a cell phone up from a student, it is your responsibility to ensure that it returns to that student in the same condition that you confiscated in. The administration, the school, nor the district are responsible for lost or damaged phones and parents legally can require you replace it if loss or damage if such happens as a result of your confiscation.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
It was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
Many other notable figures have been named as Paul Harris Fellows, including U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and Jonas Salk.
