Good Morning Stanwood Middle School Families!

A reminder, today, Wednesday, November 25th is a short day for students!

All three grade levels will have Advisory at 10:00 a.m. and then be done for the day. Information is listed below.

There will be no school on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th.

A reminder, with the Thanksgiving Holiday, all work assigned by teachers on Thursday, November 19th will be due Wednesday, December 2nd. Make sure your student gets in the SMS yearbook!

We are changing the way we do our yearbook pictures this year. Students are able to take a selfie and use it for their picture. We still hope to have school pictures later in the year, which can be used for their Yearbook picture, but this is a fun way for us embrace Distance Learning.

Please see more information and click on the PDF link below from our Yearbook Staff:

• Go to https://high5.id/p/qpq4m to take your picture. Make sure you have your student's ID number handy.

• You or your student will take their selfie portrait on your phone or computer webcam and upload.

• Photos are sent directly to our system and are used to create yearbook portraits and school IDs. This entire three-step process only takes a few seconds. If your photo is rejected for quality issues, you may be asked to retake and submit.

The deadline to receive all student portraits is Friday, December 18th.

Don’t forget to order this year’s historic yearbook before we run out! Your student will not want to miss out on all of the stories that are making this year so unique.

Buy today [online through the Stanwood Middle School website] for only $25.

A message from our Counselor Mrs. Fox!

Gratitude & The Kindness of Strangers

Hello Everyone! Something I often encourage students to practice is Gratitude. When we are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, stopping to notice a few simple things that you are grateful for can “short circuit” the stress and bring more calm and balance to the moment. Practicing this over time allows this helpful practice to become habit.

During these challenging times, I am feeling grateful for the kindness of strangers. It seems that people are trying to slow down a bit and focus on the basic and vital needs of life, including kindness and connection, even amidst these uncertain and stressful circumstances.

Recently I was safely shopping for a birthday present at a store called Boxes and Bears. The owner of the shop and I got to talking, and when she learned I am a school counselor, she said she would like to donate a box of new fidget toys to our school. How incredibly kind of her! Then, the other night when I was home eating dinner, someone knocked on our door, kindly stepped back a good distance with their masks on, to let us know that our dome light was on in our car. So helpful!

I am also incredibly grateful for our SMS staff and families. We are working hard together to support students with distance learning and with their social-emotional / mental health. Every student deserves to know that they have support at school and in life. SMS staff make sure that students know we care and that we are here to help. I am so proud to be part of this great school community.

In the spirit of gratitude, here is an image to help inspire conversations of gratitude with your student.

Be Well ~

School Pictures and Student Identification Cards

At this time we are working with our picture company to set a date for School Pictures to be taken. We want to make sure we are able to provide a safe place for our students, staff and the company's photographers to take quality school pictures and provide student identification cards.

We will keep you updated and make sure all our families know right away once we have them scheduled!

Because we are not able to be in person this year Mr. Wall, our wonderful multimedia, yearbook and keyboarding teacher, has put together a slideshow to allow families to see faces, to see what peoples roles are in the building, and to see contact information for everyone!
