AP testing update
An e-newsletter from Mounds View Public Schools
March 23, 2020
This email is being sent to students and families that have students registered to take an Advanced Placement (AP) exam in May 2020.
Last Friday, March 20, College Board provided an update with information for AP students affected by coronavirus. Students and parents should review this update for important information about the changes in the exam administration as well as free resources and opportunities to prepare for AP exam(s).
Please also note the following important information included in the College Board Coronavirus update:
TRADITIONAL FACE-TO-FACE AP EXAM ADMINISTRATIONS WILL NOT TAKE PLACE.
Students will take a 45-minute online free-response exam at home. The exam questions will address concepts covered by most students through March. See link to the Course-Specific Exam Information Table to understand the units exam questions will cover and NOT cover for each subject test. For most AP subjects, there will also be two different testing dates offered to allow flexibility for students to take the exam sooner while the content is still fresh, or later to allow more time to practice. The full exam schedule, specific free-response question types that will be on each AP Exam and additional testing details will be available by April 3.
Free resources will be available through exam day from College Board and your AP teachers to help students get ready and prepare for their exams.
Beginning March 25, students can attend free, live AP review courses delivered by AP teachers from across the country. The resources will include free online video lessons developed by AP teachers for the AP topics and skills typically taught in each AP course. Watch the videos at youtube.com/advancedplacement.
Students will be able to take these streamlined exams on any device they have access to—computer, tablet or smartphone. Taking a photo of handwritten work will also be an option. Chromebooks will be distributed to all students in grades one through 12 this week as part of the District's distance learning plan. Students should watch for information from their school about pick-up dates, times and instructions. Internet options are also available for students. For more information, visit the Mounds View Schools Coronavirus Resources Technology webpage.
PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION DATE EXTENDED FOR AP STUDIO ART AND COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES.
Portfolio submissions for AP Studio Art and Computer Science Principles has been extended to May 26. Also, Computer Science Principles students will NOT have to take a final AP exam.
We understand students and parents will have a lot of questions about these new AP exam changes. We appreciate your patience as we continue to develop and finalize the details as information becomes available. As the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, we encourage students and families to frequently visit the College Board website and the District Advanced Placement (AP) testing website for updated information. Students registered for AP exams will also continue to receive updates from their AP teachers as well as emails from aptesting@moundsviewschools.org.
If you have questions, contact your AP teacher or aptesting@moundsviewschools.org.
