Room 26 Weekly News
April 30 - May 4, 2018
Announcements
Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your 5th grade t-shirt order forms. If you have not yet done so, please send in your order form as soon as possible. (Order forms went home on Thursday...) This is a fun keepsake for your child, and we will have several opportunities for 5th graders to wear their shirts before the end of the school year.
Also, as a reminder, next week is our Family Life unit. I believe most of you have already sent in the permission slip, but if you have not yet done so, please send it in as soon as possible so we know whether we need to make alternate classroom arrangements for any 5th graders during this time.
Next week (May 7-11) will be Mrs. Goode's last week student teaching in our classroom. She has been an absolutely AMAZING addition to our class these past several months. She is a kind, talented, positive, and encouraging teacher. We have been so fortunate to have her in our room! I would love to put together a special good-bye gift for her. If you could have your student write a thank-you letter to Mrs. Goode and give them to me (secretly), I will put them together into a book or binder for her. Please have them use an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and fold it in half to make a card. Having them all the same size will make it easier for me to put together for her. Remind them to sign their names so she knows who the letter is from! Those sweet letters from students will mean SO much to her - and will be a joy for her to look back on later when she might be having a tough day in her classroom!
CAASPP Testing will take place during the week of May 21st. More information will come home about this, but please mark that week on your calendar. There will be two days of ELA testing and two days of Math testing. The 5th grade Science test will be given the following week (one day only).

We are finishing up our unit on the formation of the U.S. Government after the Revolutionary War. Students have learned about the shortcomings of the Articles of Confederation, the establishment of the U.S. Constitution, the compromises that led to our 2-house system of congress and our 3-branch system of government, as well as the Bill of Rights. Students will be completing a Study Guide in class on Monday. They should be using the study guide to prepare for their Unit Test on Friday.
As a reminder, your child has TWO more opportunities to pass All 50 States & Capitals (or 100% Spelling). The final two tests will be given on Friday, May 11, and Friday, May 25.
