By Eli Whitney
The cotton gin was created by Eli Whitney in 1793. The cotton gin was used to clean cotton faster and more efficent!
There are four steps to work this machine. The first step is to crank the handle of the machine. Then, the seeds that are too big to go through fall out of the cotton. After that, a roller removes the clean cotton and finally the cotton comes out nice and clean!!
The significance of this machine is that it improved cleaning cotton faster and more efficent. It began moving plantations up north. Also it increased the cotton profits in the south, but it effected people differently. It effected the african americans because it made them work more in the south, but they were valued more. This machine effected the white people because it made some richer and they happier because the work was done faster and gained them a better profit!
