Thomson Tidbits
Monthly Newsletter
AUGUST
Thank you!
We had a fantastic first week at Thomson. I cannot tell you how proud I am of our staff and students. While day one might have looked a bit like organized chaos, by day two, many kids had learned the "lay of the land" and mainly were finding their way to their classrooms on their own. Even after the long weekend, kids remembered how to get to their classrooms. However, we will continue to have staff members ready to help all year long throughout the building.
I also want to thank all parents and guardians for trusting us with your child and respecting our "kiss and go" policy. As a parent, I know how hard it can be to watch your little one enter the building or get on a bus on their own, but your support with this has also contributed immensely to our smooth start and growing your child's independence at school.
As the school year progresses, please expect Thomson Tidbits at least monthly, if not bi-weekly. Also, watch your child's red folder for flyers and other information. Remember, the red folder should be checked and emptied each night. Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or office if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Melissa Williams

Parent Pick-Up
If you have a student that was here last year, you may notice that procedures have changed. The dismissal procedures used in the previous year were due to COVID protocols, and we had extra staff members to assist.

Visitors at Thomson
Parents, guardians, and other family members will be allowed into Thomson for the following:
- Dropoff/Pickup student medications
- Attend IEP or 504 meetings
- Attend parent-teacher conferences
- As an approved volunteer
For other reasons such as dropping off a student late, picking up a student early, and dropping off sites such as a forgotten lunch or library book, parents/guardians should come to the front door and ring the doorbell. At that time, an office member will greet you through the doorbell system and ask you to go to the office.
Handle with care!
Medicine
Please remember that you should not send medication with your child to school; this includes over-the-counter and doctor-prescribed. If a student has a medication that they need to take at school, don't hesitate to get in touch with the office so that we can ensure that the proper forms are issued to be signed by your child's doctor. This is the same procedure for over-the-counter medications. This is just a reminder you must complete a new "Authorization to Administer Medication" form each school year. Please get in touch with our office if you have any questions about medicine administration or medical concerns for your child that you have not discussed with us.
