Week 4

It's hard to believe that we are already in our 4th week of school. Time has flown by and the kiddos are getting into the routines of our daily procedures. Your help at home with spelling homework and reviewing of vocabulary words is much appreciated.

Up Coming Events at Dodd

Dino Beat: (Clarification - All Dodd students attend Dino Beat days, but only certain grades are recognized just like in the past. Dino Beat occurs every 3 weeks.)

* Friday September 19th - Dino Kid recognition K-1

Dollar Days: Dress like a Pirate ARGHH, matey!

* Tuesday September 23rd - Dodd Spirit Night @ Marco's Pizza

* Friday, September 26th 8:00 am - Reading Day Parade - Students dress up as their favorite book character that they have read, bring their book, and join in a character parade at school. Parents are welcome to come and see the great stories and costume characters on parade! Participation is highly recommended, as we are going to be having classroom activities during the day. (Prizes will be involved within my classroom!)

This week we read a fantasy called Wolf. Student discussed character changes and compared and contrast the characters within the story. We also worked with the following vocabulary words: admire, ached, passion, bothering, splendid, concentrate

Drive time - students read independently and chose which questions to respond to in a short readers response activity. They also worked on dictionary skills to find words and their meanings.

Social Studies

Students reviewed vocabulary and completed their government fold able for unit 9. They will add to the KWL chart information they have learned thus far on government. Wonderful news is that they now know that Wylie is a city, Texas is our state, and the United States is our nation! Our unit 9 vocabulary quiz is tomorrow, so please take one last quick look with them on the vocabulary terms. If your child has misplaced their words, they can look it up on Shutterfly.

Spelling and C.U.P.S.

This week students alphabetized their spelling words in their spelling journal and worked with words that followed the ou, and oi pattern. Reminder - spelling tests are on Fridays and journals are due on Wednesdays. CUPS folders go home Thursdays and I have seen a great deal of participation and discussion with editing rules in class. We are working on our writing authority list in our writing journals and I can't wait to see some of the topics they know about.
