Interactions of light

  • Materials that can freely transmit all light through are known as transparent
  • Transparent material are materials that allow light straight through them.
  • Examples: glass, water, air.

  • Translucent materials transmit only part of the light. some light passes through, but some does not.

  • You can see through materials although not as clearly; the image will be fuzzy or distorted somehow

  • Examples: frosted glass, tissue, some types of plastic.

  • Opaque materials do not only allow any light to be transmitted through them.

  • This would be any type of material or object that you cannot see through

  • Examples: wall, floor, table.
