News and Events You Can Use
Be the Voice Food Drive Our school participated in a food drive that benefited the Sandy Springs Solidarity food bank. The students signed pledges to bring a nonperishable item for the drive if possible. Upon signing the pledge, students received a foam finger with the Be the Voice logo on it. This served as a reminder for students to always show compassion to others. RCMS collected about 700 pounds of food for Solidarity! | Socratic SkillsMs. Webb’s 8th grade ELA students worked on argumentative writing standards this week. They practiced those claim-evidence-reason skills in a Socratic seminar, which is a lively group discussion technique. | Novel ObservationsMs. Reid's 8th grade reading class started "The Outsiders" as their novel study this week. Students participated in a Gallery Walk in which they stated observations and asked questions, to anchor themselves with the era in which the novel takes place. iReady Winter Benchmarks
Students will take iReady winter benchmark tests to assess their growth in reading and math on Dec. 5 (reading) and Dec. 7 (math). Please encourage your students to do their best! We look forward to seeing each student grow when comparing to their fall scores. We use iReady winter results for next school year’s course scheduling. If students score below the 35th percentile in reading, we will also do additional intervention testing and screening this spring.
Parent University Class for Dec. 5 POSTPONED
Dec. 6 is a Remote Learning Day
Due to statewide run-off elections and schools being used as polling places, it was recently announced that students will have a remote learning day (no in-person school) on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Teachers will provide students asynchronous work by Friday, Dec. 2. There will not be live instruction or live class meetings.
Optional Lockers Available for Spring 2023
Ridgeview plans to make the option of student lockers available for the spring of 2023. If your student may be interested in obtaining a locker, please read this initial information carefully:
- Lockers are optional, and any student who does not want to purchase use of a locker will be allowed to continue carrying a backpack.
- Lockers will be available for sale for $5 between November 28 and Dec.16 only through our online platform – no cash or checks.
- Interested students/families should purchase a locker on Online School Payments during the above timeframe. Students can show a printout or picture (please ask permission to use their phone first) to their homeroom teacher. As a fail-safe, the school will run a report of individuals who have paid online and will provide it to the homeroom teacher after the deadline.
- After the spring semester begins, lockers will be distributed to students who have paid.
- Note that students will only have limited use of the lockers at designated times during the day (for example purposes only: before 1st period, before connections classes, and at the end of the day).
- Requests for certain locker locations or top/bottom lockers will not be taken.
- Locker privileges may be removed at any time at the administration’s discretion for inappropriate use without a refund.
7th Grade MAP Assessment Reports
7th graders took the MAP assessment in mid-October, and this past week their homeroom teacher distributed a printed MAP assessment report to parents through students. The report comes with a short cover page explaining how to interpret your 7th grade student’s results.
