Introducing New Board Meeting Summaries

The Jefferson Union High School District is committed to excellent communication with our community. We understand that important information is shared during Board of Education meetings, yet not everyone is able to attend or view the entire meeting. We have developed this new Board Meeting Summary to provide our community with a quick overview of the latest Board of Education meeting. You can view all public meetings on our JUHSD YouTube Channel.

Trustees to Consider 100% At-Home Learning for Fall of 2020

Trustees resolved to hold a special session on Monday, July 27 at 6pm to determine whether school should be conducted in 100% At Home Learning (AHL) for the Fall semester. The following documents were presented to the Board in support of continuing AHL for Fall 2020: Update on the Return to School Plan and a letter from over 200 staff union members requesting 100% distance learning.

School Starts August 10 in At-Home Learning

School will begin August 10 in At-Home Learning. School principals will be reaching out soon with additional information, including details on school orientation, devices, textbooks, and other return-to-school necessities.

Update on the Return to School Plan

The Return to School Committee’s Update on the Return to School Plan presented by Associate Superintendent of Educational Services Kareen Baca includes:
  • Parent Survey Update,
  • SB98: Learning Continuity & Attendance Plan Distance Learning Requirements
  • Committee Updates, including Potential First Week Activities

Federal Government Restricts Food Service Funding to JUHSD Students with Free Lunch Status

Beginning August 10, the federal government will no longer provide funds for feeding children that are not students of JUHSD, nor will they provide funds for JUHSD students who do not have Free or Reduced Price Meal status. Associate Superintendent of Business Services Tina Van Raaphorst’s School Nutrition Board Update included recommendations for best managing this. All recommendations were accepted by the Board, with the exception of the start date. The Board agreed to supplement the meal program with district funds to continue to serve non-district students until the local elementary programs start back up on August 19.

Return-to-Work Considerations for Human Resources

The Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Staff Relations, Toni Presta, provided an update on COVID-19 return to onsite work HR considerations:
    • Developing the Interactive Process for employees who are not able to return to in-person work for health reasons

    • Determining where there will be gaps between available teaching force and classes offered, and how to fill them

    • Providing virtual training, such as Mandated Reporter, for all staff
