Virtual Learning Extension

Big picture

The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees voted to extend virtual learning beyond the first four weeks of school and announced plans to welcome back scholars who previously chose in-person learning. The in-person start date for that limited number of scholars will be Monday, October 19, 2020.

We recognize that engaging with scholars in person is best, which is why Duncanville ISD is taking steps to phase-in a safe return of scholars to a traditional classroom setting. Duncanville ISD also continues to monitor COVID-19 data provided by Dallas County Health and Human Services. Over the past few weeks, Dallas County has seen numbers trend in a positive direction.

All families will have the opportunity to change between in-person and virtual learning at the end of each nine-week grading period. To make a learning preference change starting with the second nine-week grading period, parents can do so using the Learning Preference Change Form between October 12, 2020 and October 26, 2020. The second nine-week grading period begins Monday, November 9, 2020.

This phase-in process allows the district and school staff to prepare and welcome scholars back to our classrooms. Thank you to parents and staff for your patience and partnership. We are in this together.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Big picture
National Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15, 2020 to October 15, 2020 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. The timing is key. Hispanic Heritage Month always starts on September 15, a historically significant day that marks the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. The designated period is also a nod to those from Mexico and Chile, which celebrate their independence on September 16 and September 18, respectively. We appreciate Hispanic Americans' contributions to our culture.
