March is Women's History Month
Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.
The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.
A few years later, the idea had caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Six years later, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March!
Please celebrate with us by joining the Women’s History Month Kahoots organized by the FAM and our essay contest! Find out more about the essay contest by clicking HERE.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Tobias Rogers
We'd like to shout-out freshman student, Tobias Rogers, nominated by Ms. Abram, for his consistent effort and for always showing how passionate he is to learn in ELA! Tobias started the school year being one of the hardest working students on a consistent basis, and he continues to do so every single day. I like to think of Tobias as a “the quiet-storm”, because even though he has a quiet and calm demeanor in the classroom, he beams and emanates diligence and perseverance. One of my favorite motivational mottos to encourage students is “Rise and Grind!”, and even at 8 a.m. Tobias is always present and ready to learn and work! He loves to volunteer and take on tasks such as reading aloud, or briefly sharing and dropping a quick insightful jewel to think about during discussions. Thank you, Tobias for being so ZEALOUS, DEVOTED, and HARD-WORKING – it’s a true inspiration!
Za-Shay Washington
Let’s shine a spotlight on freshman student, Shay Washington, nominated by Ms. Abram, for always participating and being a contributor to our class community in ELA! She is a true asset and is dedicated to being a scholar. Shay’s sweet and kind spirit radiates and she is always sure to greet her classmates and myself when she joins class and when we say farewell. I can always expect a “Good Afternoon, Ms. Abram!” and it really makes my day!! It is such a genuine pleasure to have Shay both in-person and in the virtual classroom because she is so hardworking and committed to achieving greatness no matter where she is. Za-Shay truly embodies Ms. Freshman Howard everyday – shout out to you, for being so FABULOUS, EXCEPTIONAL, and AWESOME! I am so proud of your academic success!
