Rams Singers Update

Volume 1: Edition 2

Second Update!

Well, here we are! Time for a second update all ready. This is actually a bit later than I wanted to send it out, but the past few weeks have been a doozy, plus we had Spring Break thrown in there. I really enjoyed hearing from students about their breaks and where/who they visited. Many students enjoyed time at home while others were able to travel and see family in other parts of the country, and a few even were able to travel outside the US to visit family!

Jordan-Matthews Spring Arts Festival

We had the wonderful opportunity to once again participate in the Spring Arts Festival. This event includes an art gallery and live performances by the students of Siler City Elementary, Virginia Cross Elementary, Silk Hope School, Chatham Middle School, and Jordan-Matthews High School. I always look forward to this event because it is an opportunity for the educators to share the amazing talent of our students with the community. It is also a fantastic opportunity for our students to see the programs that they can participate. My students were able to watch the Jordan-Matthews Choir perform, and the elementary students were able to see my group perform.

I took the 6th grade chorus students from Chatham Middle. We had a great time! I was incredibly proud of my students, especially due to their bravery and confidence when we experienced some technical difficulty! They were not phased and continued on like nothing had happened!

I also took the Ringing Rams Color Choir. These students meet with me once a week and we play all sorts of music games. We also ring handbells. This group was made possible through a grant from the Chatham Education Foundation. As you can see in the photo below, we were joined by some community members as well! Thanks to everyone who participated.

Kudos to all who participated. If you were unable to attend this year, I highly recommend you mark your calendars as soon as this event is announced next year!

All-County Chorus

Tuesday, April 12th, 7pm

910 East Cardinal Street

Siler City, NC

I am excited to be taking 16 students to represent CMS at this years All-County Chorus clinic. This is an incredible day of singing, t-shirts, pizza, and performing! These talented singers were chosen based on their singing ability as well as their behavior. We will rehearse music for the concert from 8:15 until 4:00! That is a lot of concentration, especially for a middle schooler. The reward is performing next to some of the best singers in the county for your community!

My students will be working with Matthew Hanson, the choral director at Northwood High School. They are very excited because they have heard so much about his a cappella group Pitch Please (check them out, they are incredible!). Pictures and sound bites to come in the next update!

I was pretty stoked when I saw that Kahoot! had retweeted a picture I put up of our students using Kahoot! Ghost mode one day in class. Kahoot! has over 35,000 followers, so it felt good to know so many people had seen my kids doing such good work!

Chatham County Showcase of Schools

Thursday, April 14th, 6-7:30pm

This is an opportunity for schools to show off some of the awesome programs that they provide for students. Chatham Middle is happy to have the Beta Club, Science Olympiad, Robotics, and the Ringing Rams Color Choir representing our school at this event. Schools will have booths set up for community members to see our students achievements and ask students questions about what these opportunities have meant to them.
